OK here's the situation.... On the highway cruising along... Check engine light comes on.... with in like 5 miles later I'm getting no throttle response... and RPM's are dropping... i hit the breakdown lane stop put it in park and see i'm idling at 1k hit the pedal no response... shut the car down get out check all connections.. get in start the car still no response.... after like 5 times of this it finally responds... i'm think good just a fluke... hit the brake put in in drive... no response again from the throttle... well I get it towed to the dealer... they run diagnostics.. say that the throttle body is bad.. that it's stuck closed??? I have 37k on it and they are saying it might not get covered under warranty... WTF they also need to find out if there is any parts around for it and how much.... does anyone else feel this should be covered under some part of powertrain warranty???

 

have anything done to the car? engine wise? if it's stock. you should be fine. and they will cover under warranty..

 

the dealship said that they could unless Scion Corp. says they can

isn't our warrenty for 5 years? i gotta check my paper work but im pretty shure its at least 5 years. ____o if hyundai can offer 10 years im shure toyota is at least half of that or should be. and if it is stock they should cover it. any car manufacturer should back there warranties up. ack a fool at the dealership if they don't.

 

3 36k is the standard unless you bought the extra... just called and filed a case number with Scion... waiting now to see if they are going to cover this.... for a throttle bodt to go at 37000 miles is just crazy... plus it is all stock...

3 36k bumper to bump 5 60k powertrain... it isn't covered under powertrain...

 

that sucks, I have the 7/100 bumper to bumper so I don't have to worry. I have never needed a warranty on a Toyota I've owned yet. Knock on wood.

 

Ya I figured that i would be fine with just the basic... Waiting to see what Scion will do... will update as I know more

 

should be covered. engine stopped working on my bro's xb (1yr old/28000miles on it) & it is being replaced with no problems, issues, or questions. his car has been nothing but a warranty nightmare. this is the 4th time its going in for warranty work.

 

ya they covered it cause it was under the 36k mark... mine is just barely over it.. with 37,5 on it... I am hopeful... was told that the part is in transit... that there isn't one in the US anywhere... So this is obviously not a common problem..

 

And why wouldn't this be covered under powertrain? It's a part of the engine.

Being that it's so close, there's no reason why they really shouldn't cover it anyway.

 

they claim it is not considered part of powertrain... they are supposed to get back to me within 24 hours either way...

 

I can see where they're iffy on this - the throttle body is located after the intake... It's technically part of the whole intake system.

Scott, depending on your issue it may or may not be covered
if its an actual issue with your engine (not a sensor,etc.) or transmission
then it SHOULD be, otherwise if its something else i.e. a sensor, then no
unless you have an extended warranty

 

I have the extended warranty, that covers EVERYTHING (except wear and tear parts) and the 3/36 would cover his problem, except he's past the 36k

 

you should re-check your extended warranty, because it does not cover EVERYTHING that you think it might, but ill let you find that out the hard way one day
so if hes past the 3/36 (which he is) it WOULDN'T cover his issue, then would it?!?!?!?, no, ok

 

its just bad luck, u clearly passed 36k, so of course its not going to be covered.
