Default for those with a k+n intake

im looking into maybe getting a k+n cai/typhoon. id really like injen but its not carb legal in good old CA. ive seen the dyno charts for all the intakes, but im not really a big fan of those because we all know they can be faulty. for those that actually have the k+n intakes, how do you like them? powerwise and soundwise? im looking for something that wont cut out a chunk of my low end, and have a nice feed around 4k. its also gotta sound nice of course

also, dyno for trd intake out anywhere? from what ive searched i couldnt find one. just wanted to double check though. im also assuming its carb legal in CA cuz its a rebadged aem. correct me if im wrong.

thanks

FYI, the K&N , Injen or any other intake for the tC are not CARB legal either.

Its not CARB legal. The carbon filter element is removed which will make it technically illegal. Its been covered many many times here already

This is very true, none of the cold air intakes are carb legal for the tC. But if you are in san jose, I can show you the monstermotorwerks short ram. I am in Milpitas. :D

CAI are all going to take away from low end power. CAI is not for daily driving. You will lose a noticible amount of power below 3k rpms which is under what most people shift at. None of the dyno will show this as they start at 3k. The effect on the entire power band is not worth the high end bump.

The loss does not make the car undriveable by any means. If you feel the loss is undesireable than you shouldnt run one, but to say it isnt for daily driving is just not correct. With the additon of a header or exhaust the loss is no longer an issue since the overall HP will be higher than stock across the entire powerband.

Trust me. you wont notice any gain or loss in power with a CAI. At most you are gaining/losing a couple HP at any given point.. they sound good and look good. The performance gains are there, but you wont really notice them much. I felt no effect at lower rpms and maybe a slight effect higher up.. but with the variation in the way a car performs it gets lost in the mix as far a perception goes.

I took my K&N off after about a month when it broke the bracket of the top of the motor mount and started rattling like a lot of others have had happen. Terrible mounting design by K&N. I have heard of a couple of people with the same issue on the Injen, but dont know about any others.

I have had the same thing happen on my car, the bracket snapped one day. Maybe I'll try to JB weld it or something. We'll see when I get the time
