Default Throw Out Bearing

Has anyone had any issues with the throw out bearing going bad?

My current drivetrain setup is Exedy Stage 1 Organic Clutch, Fidanza Lightened Flywheel, and B&M Short shifter.

Originally I had my car turbo'd with the stock clutch and flywheel, then the clutch was slipping occasionally and I realized it was time to upgrade. Up until about two months ago the car makes a loud sound every time my foot is on the clutch. Even if its barely on, halfway on, or fully on the clutch the sound is really loud.

I took it to a couple shops and they all said it was the throw out bearing, and it would be super expensive to fix, and it wasn't worth it. I'm kind of afraid of the long term affects on the transmission with this part going bad.

As of now with the holiday season coming up, funds are low, and I have decided not fix it yet, but of course any suggestions on what to do would be greatly appreciated!

After bashing my car for 19K (the car was new), I decided to replace the clutch because of all the track time it was almost gone. The bearing had a squeak to it for about 15K, once I removed the transmission the bearing was not spinning free at all, I replaced it and no problems since. The car now has 59K and a lot of track time with the Centerforce DF clutch.

think his question is how to get to it and lube it.....is there a cover that can be easily removed.I have not looked under a stick tranny so I cannot answer what to take off to get to the bearing.

No there isn't, you have to seperate the engine and transmission to get to it.

^^^ i agree ^^^

me and the other ASE tech that i work with that was here on saturday agree that there is no freaking way to get at that thing short of pulling the tranny away from the motor.

had my friend get under the car and apply it...took 7 minutes and its been fine for the past 4 months
if you got a way to do this i am all ears... we pulled the inspection cover and all you can see is the back of the flywheel. we pulled the starter and you can see the pressure plate but you cant get access past it. then we pulled the clutch slave cylinder and tried to move the clutch fork to get at it and that aint happening... about the only thing we decided that you could do in 7 minutes is stick an air powered grease gun in where the fork is and spray and pray... and frankly that doesnt seem very practical.

so again... if you got a way then you need to get your buddy up on here and post some pics on how you did this... cause i am thinking you were lubing something other than the throw out bearing.

Well if you cannot find a way to do it without pulling the thing apart it cannot be done.....that much i know.sucks they do not have an access panel to get inthere.

It makes a REALLY loud whizzing sound whenever my foot is in the clutch, when the car is idle the whizzing sound goes away and its normal.
