VERY Different. 5th gear synchro will drive you almost insane while trying to install it. Double cone synchro falls apart as your pressing it on.

I did cheat about 30-40 steps, pulled the gearsets out along with the shifter forks in one fell swoop. Putting them back in require a third hand to lower the diff in.

so, what do you need in this install? trd sparks has that package now. but it says...
http://www.trdsparks.com/displaypart...&parts_id=1336

"Excludes shims and speedometer drive gear."

so... what do you really need for this. no shops want to take this job without knowing exactly what to do.

speedo drive gear, TOOLS, and shims. You won't know the shim size until diff is test fitted. Since the shims are only stocked at the Cali warehouse, the car is gonna be taking up a rack for about a week.

Shops don't like that!

i bought a spare tranny and had him do the install on the spare tranny so that my car would not be out of comission for any period of time...

so he didn't do the install in a rush.. just took his time and did it right instead of trying to rush through it.

tC tranny... 4 spider gear diff, or just 2? I ask cause I can blow up my ZX2's 2 spider gear diff pretty much whenever i feel like it (hell one hard launch in boost will probably shatter them).

Two spiders, only time you see 4 spiders is in clutch style LSD's

Honda only use 10 ring gear bolts, Toyota uses 16!

I'm assuming then Toyota/Honda produce the gears out of a much stronger material since I have yet to hear of anyone grenading their spiders just from some stupid 1st gear wheel hop (mine just shattered... my car had a whole 120whp back then too, yay!)

POS Mazda tranny is the biggest thorn in my side in my ZX2. BTW there are some 4 spider gear non-LSD diffs (FWD Ford Escape is one... sounds more like a quick hack by Ford/Mazda to keep it from breaking since it's the same internals as the ZX2 tranny, just different gearing).

BTW, the Ford diffs I've seen have the ring gear welded on (as you can see in my pic).

The Toyota ring gear must be heated to fit on the diff.

Very tight fit.
