Default Trying to make a 350z muffler work on the tC!

Ok i threw this together but you guys can get the idea...

http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=2/5413015089.jpg&s=x402

im pretty sure that the stock 350z tips are too close together, because I want to utilize the exsisting stock cutout, and make another cutout, just like the guy that had his custom built by Stylis.

So heres what I'm thinking...
As per the imputed picture, can I have an exhaust shop cutoff and add inserts to extend the piping coming out of the muffler to extend the overall diameter between the tips? I think this is do-able because it wouldnt be cutting into any muffler areas, just tubing... what do you guys think? Do-able? Because you all know this would be hella sweet on the tc. very unique

ya i think it can be done. your not touching the muffler, just extending the piping. can't wait to see your progress and how it sounds.

Just saw it! :D Ok, you can do this BUT the bend to the muffler would be very very tight. This is why I don't do it with this muffler config. The pipe that comes up from the center part of the frame would be the tightest U bend ever made and really not worth it. The pipe would actually have to be under the muffler and than bend up into the muffler. That is why I have the dual set-up the way it is on Chris's white tC. I have been over this config so many times and still ____es me off that I can't do it.

thanks for the input! im still a little unclear of where the problem would be? not like i dont agree, but dont understand? any way maybe you could do something like i did on paint to show where the prob would be? since you said you tried this many times, i guess that means you agree it would not only look, but also sound great!? I really appreciate the info, its better to find out now than after i get it!

The problem is room for the muffler and the pipe. The tC doesn't have enough room for the muffler and the pipe to fit propperly. To have this dual exhuast work would mean multiple bends that would kill the HP gain like crazy and the pipe would be really low to the ground.

Here is a simple way to show you, measure the distance from the rear frame to the bumper. Thats how much space you have for the muffler alone. Now measure the magnaflow/flowmaster with the dual design to see how much room you have left for the pipe. There is not much.

look where the muffler is and see where the pipe comes out from the frame. There is not much room for the pipe and the muffler.

you need to look into other mufflers from different makers for different cars, like srt-4, rx-8, because I have thought of doing this too. But I am more concerned about losing power with a different muffler on it from a 350z or rx-8. Most mufflers are designed especially for a specific car and and engine. I have tried to ask this question before, but maybe you will have better luck. I love the idea though of having dual exhuast . In fact I started a poll on it a while back about dual or single exhuast which was better on scionlife.

Try a V6 Tiburon exhaust the V6 is a 2.7 liter so not much difference between our 2.4. I haven't actually seen the exhaust on those cars so it was just a suggestion.

there stock exhaust sucks

and as far as the srt-4 it has no muffler on it so that isnt the best idea plus dodge made a T where the exhaust spilts to 2 pipes so its verry restrictive (stupied americans )

i would suggest just buying a duel exit magnaflow or somthing along thoughs lines it will be smaller and easier to fit

thanks for spoiling my dreams! and thanks, i guess, for the input

so does anyone think that the actual muffler would sound any different than stock?
becuase I know I have a lot of options for doing dual exhaust, its the sound that I thought this muffler would be best.

Do any aftermarket companies make the 1 in 2 out mufflers similar to the 350z one? the only ones Ive seen have the 2 at one side, so youd have to wrap one of the pipes around to the other side

also, i considered the stock muffler, im not sure how it would work, because i think it was Stylis posted the pic of the exhaust he cut open, its a pretty poor design...

while im at it, stylis, when you cut the other side of the bumper, are there any suggestions or tips you can offer? maybe tools used to cut and measure? i would be forever in your debt

One of the absolute worst ideas I have ever read on any car forum. Somehow rigging that exhaust will not give you that distinct note..its also the engine. Thats like assuming rigging a 360 Modena exhaust will make the tC sound like an ferrari

also, i drew this up to clarify

the muffler: http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=2/5503274217.jpg&s=x402

how I envision it working: http://putfile.com/pic.php?pic=2/5503254739.jpg&s=x402

im sorry to beat this into the ground, but you know when you have an idea and a visualization, and you think it will work, its hard to see past it?

because i have to say, generally, im with you 100% percent when you say it wont fit and how the tc has such a small space to work with. but specifically, im still trying to figure out what the actual problem area would be, and i figured it would be easier if i drew it so you could be like "ahh, so thats why hes thinking that, thats not how it goes!" thanks once again for your patience and your time!

ok i dont understand eveyrone's point about using different muffler from different cars...

why not use the STOCK TC one and put an extra pipe on the other side so its lik a dual exhaust??

that makes the most sense because other cars might have MORE restrictive mufflers hurting you in the end.
and if you tink doing this will make it sound lik a 350z or watever... its not because its not the muffler but the WHOLE exhaust system and ENGINE that produces this noise.

Uhm..have you seen the insides of an exhaust? You can't just make holes wherever you want.

I dont think it will sound ANYTHING like it does on the 350.. it may sound good, may sound bad.. but two entirely different systems so I wouldnt assume that it will sound anything close to a 350.. but if you get it to work let us know how it sounds.
