Default UPDATE: K&N + TRD Exhaust + Megan = Disappointing

Finally got the Megan's installed. The install was rather annoying, and took a TON of muscle to get those bolts off. I'll cut right to the chase....

I HATE THEM

With this combination, it does sound like a fart can. I don't like them at all and will be switching back to the stock setup within the next couple days to restore my car to the nice tone it had before.

FOR SALE:
2005 Scion tC Megan Racing Headers

Barely used, haven't driven them very hard. Nice bronze look from the first couple heat cycles. You will need to order a replacement gasket from Megan Racing unless you feel it is safe to use the one that I have already installed on my manifold.

To clear things up, you can feel a power increase. It does pull a lot harder, but I cannot get over the annoying rasp shooting out of my poor car's tailpipe.

PM ME FOR A VERY REDUCED PRICE. WILL SHIP ANYWHERE IN THE STATES, YOU PAY SHIPPING.

Sorry you don't like the noise your header produces. You should keep it in your house until a good catback comes out.

Seems like this problem is pretty unavoidable without a full catback or the stock exhaust. Oh well. Back to the stock headers.

It seems that this seems to be an issue with any header/TRD Exhaust combo. If you still have your stock tailpipe, drop the TRD exhaust and keep the Megan header, it'll sound better and you'll still have better performance.

How long did it take? I am selling them to my neighbor so I may just keep them if it'll actually go away.

I have the exact same setup as you....then after about 3 weeks the sound deepened....I like it alot.

Besides, even if I didn't like it, I would put the stock muffler back on since the TRD axleback does nothing for HP.

Drive it for a few weeks and then decide.

Wow man, don't crap your pants! I don't want to spend more money on parts to make other parts work in a satisfactory fashion. I'll give these headers a couple weeks and decided then. Jesus. RELAX

I had the same exact problem when I had the K & N CAI, DC headers and TRD exhaust. I put my stock exhaust and I'm very happy about the sound. The car sounds stock with normal driving, but when you hit 3K+, the CAI and headers make a deep roar. I preordered the Draxas S-pipe to see if there are any power gains or improvement in sound. If that works out, I'll probably do a custom mid-pipe with a highflow cat later on.

I don't think the "header" breaks in, I think the cats and the muffler change sound with the additional flow.

don't the megan headers have a precat? the cat would need to "break in"

I called Megan Racing, and they told me to give it a good 3,000 miles to break in completely. He said that the piping and cats need time to expand and contract several times to temper the metal and reduce vibration, thus increasing the solidarity of the air flow.

I guess I'll just have to wait and keep them on for a while to try them out.
