Will my Check Engine Light come on if I install Headers? Or is it bad if the light come on? Is it doing damage?

And I only have a catback exhaust and will it make my car a whole lot louder?

will the CEL come on? YES if you do not use the antifouler method.

Is it bad? Yes and No. Its bad that the light is on, you won't pass emissions tests. Its the 2nd 02 sensor is reading very high levels of uncatalyzed exhaust gas. Eventually this will cause your 02 sensor to fail.

Will it make the car louder? YES and it will NOT sound good

it depends if ur hooking up the O2 sensor or not. If u are then it won't come on and
if u don't then it will come on and it might sound like a dirt bike or lawn mower.

I think it depends on what code you are throwing off. I dont think the car will go into "limp mode" if you are throwing a cel due to higher pollutants. I could be wrong though.

HA! Ok it came on today on my highway drive. I hooked up the diagnostics computer to my car today just a few hrs ago and I tested everything. No codes or problems but the CEL was on. I checked current codes and history codes. All passed. SO I just cleared the CEL light but I'm sure it will come on again with in the next 2 days. What is an anti fouler and what do I do to make everything ok. Many people say Megan is the best so I don't want to give it up for another brand of headers.

Delta, I don't want to burst your bubble, but Megan header is the worst in workmanship and performance out of AW, Strup, DC, and Weapon-R.

Driving with the CEL on is okay, it won't change the way the car runs. As for the CEL it should go off by itself after a while and stay off.

The ECU in our cars was produced by DENSO, they made it a learning ECU. Its gonna learn itself to run with the new headers, but yes ur O2 sensor, may go out faster.

You, Sir, are mostly wrong. It may "learn" but its not going to turn off the CEL for the second o2 sensor thats reading high pollutants in the exhaust gasses. Just ask any of the people on here with turbos and headers that have been running with the light on for thousands of miles.

I have this on my setup with DC header and Invidia s-pipe b/c it was originally made for the Invidia s-pipe due to its size and routing, it couldn't use the traditional anti-fouler mod, so this was made. It's been discovered and tested to work on any and all s-pipes and no one has thrown a CEL yet that I've know of. I've personally had it on for over 5500 miles now and never had a CEL from the first start up of the car with the mods installed to this day. The guy is only charging 25 bucks shipped so its well worth it IMO, plus the washer/nut thing on it lets you turn it in whatever direction you want and then lock it down. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...210&highlight=

Oh, and if you put a header on, you can guarantee you will sound like a bumble bee until you get the exhaust set up with a nice resonator in the mid pipe to kill the sound.[/b]

Amd is correct. Also, depending on what is causing your CEL, you may go into limp mode.

Im mainly going by what i was told by an enthusiast at HIN. They had DC headers on their tC and they said after a couple hundred miles that the CEL went off and never had a problem again with it coming on. They just had to change back to stock headers when thay got it inspected.

gotcha, no harm no foul really. Our ECU is adaptive but not in that sense. It adapts to how you drive, trying to be as efficient as possible. It also "learns" when a piggyback ECU is hooked up to it and will start retweaking all of its settings to ignore it....pretty annoying for the FI guys. But yeah the code that gets thrown normally, is because the CAT is removed and the 2nd O2 sensor is reading exhaust that is really high in pollutants. That's why you use an antifouler to get the sensor out of the flow of exhaust gas and it therefore can detect the pollutants anymore.
