Default Yet another intake question

Well I met fellow tC modder while at the tire shop getting four toyo proxes 4s and we got to talking apparently this guy is sponsored by a few people and they keep giving him free stuff. Well he had got a Injen SRI for his 07 but hasnt used it and he is going to give it to me free. :D

...

The only problem is I have an 06
so is there any attatchment or extra part to get MAF to fit properly? I think I've seen one before but I can't find it on sl and could I but the extra part to make it a CAI? Seeing as I'm getting this free I might as well try to make it work.

hold up, i thought the hole for the maf is bigger on 06 then my 07 if thats the case all you do is grind the hole bigger. or jb weld to make it smaller. it can be modded easy its just a pipe with a hole.

no its not. It has nothing to do with the "hole size" its the tubing size that calibrates the maf sensor. If the pipe is too big the airflow slows down and the sensor leans ut the car even though the same amount of air is going in, if its too small it will cause the airspeed to increase causing it to read more air and run rich. Its liek putting your thumb over the end of a garden hose. The same amount of water is coming out but now it seems to be coming out faster.
This is how zpi's stage 0 kit doesnt require egine management. It tricks the ecu into thinking more air is coming into the engine by changing the size of the maf sensor pipe. Its also why some cai's make more power then others and the afr's vary so much from one to the next.

ok well I picked the intake up and it is actually for a 02 camry (part #is2025P) and it seems like the MAF fits on my 06. Does anyone know if I can get an extension arm to make it a CAI? or someone I can talk to to get that?

man, there are soooo many parts made just for th 05-06 scion tc's, why is it so hard for you just to buy one of those? its not like you have something like a pontiac or saturn with no aftermarket support. you don't have to mix match and coerce parts into working with your scion if you would just get the parts for our car. i know we have the same engine as the 4cyl camry, but they might have some differences.

the reason its soo hard for me is because I got this intake free and I'm trying to make the best of it if I can. If it's not worth my time I will just throw it away since I'm sure no one wants to buy a 02 camry SRI

say for example injen, do you think they changed tubing size from an 06 to 07 when they got identical engine they just welded differant maf housing

^^Thats what I was thinking I'm glad I'm not the only one.

He said he had the intake on his 07 but the diameters and MAF hole all fit my 06. I also rough fit it in last night and it seems to fit. The filter seems to go right where the elbow to the box on the OEM intake is.

Don't mess with the mounting of the MAF, from all accounts the tiniest change to it will set off CEL's. Give up and use the proceeds to buy one that actually fits.

^^yeah I will defiantly not buy an intake with the proceeds (as my GFI is prob. better anyway). Though I can go to my window tint fund.

wow, everyone on this board is so afraid to try doing anything that's not plug and play. Use your imagination and get it done. It can't be that hard. All you really have to do is connect the intake, mount it, and stick in the MAF sensor and almost all of that is already done. This is like a DIY that is already half done... And when your done you'll have a custom part for almost free..

There are a lot of things you can do that aren't plug and play that are pretty safe, like splicing a set of lights into the preexisting wiring. However, the consensus is that the MAF in particular is unreasonably sensitive and the tiniest change to it will make it go psycho. I don't think anyone here has ghetto rigged a 2007 to a 2006 or vice versa and gotten it to work. I accidentally bought an AEM 2006 model and thought it'd fit my 07, but lo and behold the MAF mounting was one of the few changes the 07 has over the 06. I sold it and bought the injen. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think anyone's done this, since the MAF is so hard to deal with.

^ its very fragile and hyper sensitive to being moved around. I've been thru two on my 06. When it breaks/goes out the car is no longer driveable.
