I mentioned in my previous post (https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=104094) that I thought I saw my boost gauge hit 15psi with the TRD supercharger, well it did it again tonite and I decided to record it with both the autometer nexus system and live with my paulsy roomate in the driver seat. Because even I didnt beleive it!

Note: I live in WI and it was 24F outside. 4th gear pull, hwy on ramp about 5000rpms at peak doing about 90mph. This cant be right can it?!

In the second video your boost gauge went to 17lbs while you were parked and idling?

 

hmm i would say somehting is wrong with your gauge. For one there is no way by the sound of the engine you are actually at 17psi. and the most important thing is does it feel like 17psi, i mean thats a hella lot of boost and you would know if you were actually hitting that high. I could also be wrong but that is my interpretation of the videos posted.

Also in the first video it just sounds like you are idling, there is no way you would even be boosting at idle.

yeah its just a recording, i am idling in my driveway, its a play back of what happened in the other video, it does kinda feel like it is 17psi but this is my first boosted car. My friend has a TT 300z running 16psi and this feels just about the same?

 

If you are hitting 17PSI you would most likely be walking by now, or about to be, I would not recommend driving if much until you know for sure;)

Maybe Jesus was in their spinning the turbine. I mean you did yell his name at the end of the second video so maybe there is something you aren't telling us. At any rate I would say double check that you installed everything right and work from there.

There is no way your hitting 17psi man... 17psi would suck your intake manifold in... And if you are saying that you are hitting it at 5000... HAHAHA no way dude.. the S/C spools until redline... thats 6100-6200.
Something is wrong with your gauge reading, or you tapped into the wrong tube...

How about you either get another gauge, mechanical would be best to test... and throw that in for a run. The fact that the Nexus is electric, with sending units means that anyting an cause problems, including spikes in power to the sending unit. So either get a mechanical gauge for a test, which you can buy a cheap one at Auto Zone for like $20, or go get a dyno and we will be able to tell cause if you are at 17lbs you should be running about an extra 80 or more hp than me...

So you should be at about 310-330 whp.. I really dont think you are hitting over 260whp...

 

I agree with highlander. There is no way the supercharger can just "spike" and hit that kind of boost level. It's belt driven and is rpm dependent. Something's up with the gauge, or the gauge install.

 

Your engine deffinetly doesnt sound like it. If you were running 10 mor PSI boost than I am, I imagine your gears would have run alot alot faster than mine. 4th gear would have come and redlined FAST.

 

as joe said boost is constant with your rpms unless you got a different size sc pulley. i would still check the connections or try another boost gauge, you might want to measure the circumference of the pulley just to compare with others.

 

try it with another boost gauge.

 

your gauge is off, if you were hitting 17psi you would be in the high 300's low 400's in whp. And by the list of your mods, you haven't upgraded your clutch. This would also mean your clutch would be slipping an incredible amount and it wouldn't last but maybe a month.

 

when you turn the car on and your at idle what does your gauge read???

 

I think you guys are right but my clutch is starting to slip already, my dealership thinks Il get a month maybe to out of it with spirited driving.
