man, you guys putting higher than 87 octane in an unmodded engine or no force induction are killing it. i mean, 87 is the best gasoline for the bang of the buck in economy fuel and mileage. anything higher, you're just making your car work harder to retard its timing and compression to make the 89 or 91+ stuff consumeable. it sure as won't get you more horsepower either because of this. so, you not only waste money but also gasoline, mileage, and horsepower while also doing more harm to the environment because using 89 or higher on an engine meant for 87 burns less thoroughly. i can say you buy the 91 octane with the detergent once in a while to clean the injectors but that's pretty much it.

Actually no one really can say that 87 octane is better then 91 octane for our cars because really there are actually so many other factors. In actuality 91 should never run at a more "retarded" timing advance then 87 and in all actuality if it is a really hot day in theory you might even feel a power increase with 91. Also if the 91 you use happens to have a faster flame front you also might actually make more power. It’s all in the way the gasoline increases its octane. Most of the time there will be no difference but never will 91 perform any worse than 87.

Right now I use 91 because it is not that much more than 87 where I get gas. And also because I received $200 free gas with my car loan, so I am not really paying for it at this point.
I will go back to 87 when the cards run out. That is until the spring, then it will be 94 Octane from Sunoco.
