Default AEM EMS software fix for idle problem!!

Since there is a lack of interest from the manufacturer to fix the $2000 Plug & Play AEM EMS idle problem I found a solution.

For those that have the AEM EMS in their tC's here are the software modifications needed to fix it so the engine can idle below 1,000 rpm's without a problem
The problem is the signal from the cam sensor is not being read right by the EMS causing the ecu to fail reading the signal from the Cam Sensor when below about 1,000 rpm's.

To fix this you need to Open:
Setup / Sensors / Cam-Crank Sensor / Advance Cam-Crank / Advanced Pickups
This will open some Option windows including one titled Options-Mag Pickups like this:

Change only the options related to the Cam sensor.
CamHigh Sense Below = 1000
Cam Low Sense Above = 975

This fixed the idle problem I had with two EMS powered tC's. One is a 2006 and the other a 2007 model.
I am sharing this info to help but I am not responsible for anything that happens to your car. I recommend you re-check base timing after doing this!

yup they didnt make the management specific for the tc so they dont give much support on that.. that sucks though that end user has to do all the figuring out.. i think they should make one for scions

X2.

Thanks Pito for the great write up! Next time I am in the US I will definitely have this changed and hit the dyno again to see what happens. Now the only problem is the A/C freezing up.

I have talked to AEM on the phone before and once I explained the situation they were more than willing to help I just needed to know how the pins from the vehicle were wired to the AEM.

Its still under development and since they have release one already that controls drive by wire it shouldn't be too long. Hopefully within the next year they will release the one for the tC.
