damn, those look pretty long tho. i dont think they'll work with the 05-06 top.. can you get a better shot of it, like my pic? id really appreciate that so i can see if i can possibly customize something out of those 07 clips. since trd told me the top is not interchangeable, which sucks cuz that looks pretty secure!
Just want to let everyone know that I called TRD and the tech guy told me that the airbox was supposed to stay clamped if it is installed properly.
It was actually kind of funny, it seemed like the TRD tech on the phone has heard that the airbox clamp on the 05/06 doesn't stay shut like a MILLION TIMES, he even said out of no where "NO, the airbox from the 07 doesn't fit the 05/06."
So, I took it back to the dealer that installed my s/c and had them take a look at it, I saw the TRD tech at the dealership take my box off and was doing something with it... but now my airbox clamp stays clamped and doesn't show any signs of movement. I have had it fixed now for about 3 weeks.
Now, I'm scared to detach it, all I have to say is it better stay shut after i decide to replace the air filter.
I waited nearly 3 hours at the dealership (really busy, i guess), but didn't get charged anything and quite satisfied that my clamp stays shut now.

No, i took it to where i had it installed which was Rancho Santa Margarita. They are well known for installing superchargers and their TRD tech is great! I probably could have taken it to Crown because thats where i bought my car and because I have all receipts, but I didn't want to come upon any unexpected charges because Crown didn't install my s/c. That's why I should have just got the s/c installed at the nearest dealership.
However, when i spoke to the TRD rep on their 1800#, he said I may be charged something if I were to take it to a dealer that did not install it. But, he did mention that Riverside's dealership is really good about warranty issues. (i believe that is where you got yours installed and your uncle works in the part depart., right?)
If so... you just got a new s/c replaced from that dealership, so that may be why the TRD rep mentioned that.
I would just call the dealership you want to take it to, tell them your problem and ask them if it will be cover by warranty w/ no fees. Then when you actually get to the service station, confirm with the service adviser that you won't get charged for anything!

WOW!!! I unclipped the clamp on my air box to change my air filter and look what I found....

So this is how the dealer fixed my air box clamp, BUT!!!... They didn't, I'm ____ed, the clamp won't stay closed now that I have unclipped it because when I unclipped it, one of the gold screws kind of came up, basically unthreading the plastic air box that it was screwed into. I put some thread seal to get the screw to sit completely down. However, when I removed the bottom part of the air box to do all this, I noticed they had glued the air duct to the bottom piece of my air box which I just removed and also found dried up glue on the bottom of the air box. I look at the s/c installation manual and see that the air duct to the air box is only supposed to be attached to the air box, NOT GLUED!!!
I am upset that they altered my air box by screwing into it because TRD won't admit that the clamp is ____ and won't stay down unless you ghetto rigged it like they did. Also, the frickin' GLUE, wth.. the glue could have been sucked through my air filter, hc trap, and go into my supercharger. (ok... maybe thats a little over exaggerated)
Don't worry, the dealership is going to get a mouthful!
Sigh.. and i thought so highly of Toyota of RSM
tomorrow im going to pick up the new airbox they ordered from trd. should be the same but lets see if i still have the issue with the clips.
I finally had time today to take my car all the way to Toyota of RSM where I had it originally installed and where they altered my airbox! I showed the service manager the screws and told him that it was unacceptable. I received NO argument from him, they know what they did! He told me right away that the the parts will be ordered and I will be given a complimentary loaner car until I get my car back. And, of course I will not be getting charged a thing!
YEEE... having fun with my mr2 in sheep skin = COROLLA!!! watch out!

That sucks that its going to take so long... the dealership told me I'd have my car back in 2 days, so how come your parts are going to take a month?
Yeh, so the dealership had installed a new airbox but the clamp still wont stay shut. I have been so frustrated with this poorly designed airbox clamp and decided to call scion corporate, not TRD. Scion corp. is very helpful in getting problems resolved. Although the clamp still isn't fix, I am currently at the dealership for the thrid time to have them take a look at it. BUT!..!.. because I told the scion rep that I am positive that the dealership Toyota RSM is doing nothing wrong and that the clamp is simply faulty/poorly designed. The scion rep seen that I had taken it to the dealership twice, the last time getting the airbox replaced and yet the clamp still wont stay down.
This is the part that I feel special... the scion rep arranged to have a REGIONAL Toyota/Scion tech to come to the dealership to take a look at it.
I pulled to the service station this morning and I informed the service manager that I was sent from scion corp to get my car checked out and the service manager said my name right away like they were expecting me and inform me that the regional tech will be coming today to check out my car. So no BS when it comes to Scion corporate, they have been overly helpful and constantly calling to check to see if things have been resolved.
Although, I doubt even this regional tech guy will beable to fix the airbox clamp and it most likely still wont stay shut, but I am quite satified that scion corp. was willing to send out a regional tech to take a look at it.
I'll keep you guys informed on what they do....

ok, sorry for bringing up a very old thread but i think the 05/06 sc guys may wanna know about how to possibly fix the clamp issue.
so i have always used the oem air filter part# 17801-03010 because ive read threads on how good the toyota air filters are. finally i decided recently to give in and purchase a reusable K&N filter because i got tired of spitting out 15+ dollars for a new air filter every 10-15k (work is not close). Id like to mention that i took the hc trap filter off a long time ago.
this K&N filter seems to keep my air box very nicely sealed and guess what? the fricken damn clamp stay shut.
im sorry, but this clamp has always bothered me.
the reason i believe this k&n filter works to keep the clamp shut is because the fully RUBBER seal is almost twice as thick as the oem's plastic w/ rubber seal. using the k&n filter seems to place enough pressure on the clamp to stay shut.
anyways, sorry for bring up an old subject, just want to get this out to the 05/06 guys with this issue.
K&N air filter part# 33-2145-1
bought my at local auto store pepboys or autozone has them in stock regularly... lol its the same filter as my moms 97 avalon.
i also hate to say this, but i do feel a difference using this k&n over the oem. yeh yeh, its all in my head.
