Default Auto Tranny Question...

So i know this is f/i, well im boosted and the smart ppl are here :D lol - What i need to know is what changed in the auto tranny during the 02/2007 change. The tranny before this is marked as being a diff than before (05-06 models). I need to know if the valve body, electronics, etc are diff, or did they just change the fluid spec from T-IV to WS. I doubt anyone at the dealership will know or theyll try to convince me theyre different regardless of if they know or not. I want to find someone who knows what exactly was changed. I can pick up an 05-06 auto tranny for under $250 but the 07-up is a minimum of $550+ regardless of mileage - in fact i can get an 06 with only 11k miles on the tranny for $200 vs $550+ for an 07-up tranny with double the mileage or more. What im doing is looking for a tranny to build and in the meantime use the valve body to send in to have mod'd to use in my current tranny. Than one day when i have the money - fully build the second tranny.

Thanks guys!

Im seriousely just thinking its a change in the fluid spec WS maintains a very constant viscosity over the heat range basically allowing you to have a fluid thats close to the same viscosity cold as when its hot - conserving energy (fuel) when its cold but still staying thick enough when it gets hot. I changved mine to Royal Purple Max ATF and have had 0 issues with over a year and 25k miles of boost now

To my knowledge nothing mechanical or electrical was changed.

Nah, sorry for any confusion - what im looking is to find out what changed in the tranny - in 07 toyota changed the spec for the ATF to type WS instead of T-IV - im really thinking it was simply a change in the fluid being used - no actual change to the tranny itself - but i just wanted to make sure. This makes since because WS would work fine in the same transmission but would improve low temperature performance and more than likely slightly increase fuel economy.

if so its a part that goes in the tranny, theres 2 kinds an open diff and a full locking diff, the open diff(which comes standard in most cars) senses which wheel is getting less power and biases the power to that wheel. the full locking diff(mostly aftermarket) senses which wheel has more grip and biases the power to that wheel.

Hope this helps

Building an auto I like kicking ___ while sipping my big gulp Haha - well - in reality - its because i have an injury that prevents me from being able to have repetitive stress on my left ankle - so the only way i could go to 5 spd was if i trailored it and had it as a track car only. Right now its still my daily

oh ok....just to let u know...what i heard was after u have ur tranny build you need to have to shift points changed that is possible w/ ulitimate or standalone...i don't think fic has that feature.

The ultimate cant actually *control* shift points either (controlling signals to the shifting solenoids) it can simply adjust timing during auto shifting to assist with the shift. (A/T Shift Compensation Feature - On vehicles with Automatic Transmissions, ignition timing can be compensated at set shift-up and shift-down points) The fic can do the same thing under wot if you know what youre doing Ive done this already with my fic to help the stock tranny shift correctly when pushing to redline/wot. If you went with a standalone you could also use a standalone TCU to control the tranny - IPT sells one i believe for around $650 ish. Also i spoke with IPT and they let me know that their unit will function correctly without the aid of a timing adjustment or standalone TCU.
