Green is 05 Scion tC, TRD s/c with 9.5psi pulley, lightened crank pulley and water pump pulley, overdriven alternator pulley, K&N drop in filter, Megan header, Invidia s-pipe, custom mid-pipe with hi-flow cat and resonator, and Magnaflow cat-back.

Red is after swapping the exhaust to the Ptuning 3" header-back exhaust.

Both dyno pulls were done on the same day on the same dyno.

It might just be me, but I didn't see a loss in power. I might need new glasses though.

2.25" to 2.5" is good enough for most applications, but it all depends on the application. If you just want a small increase in power and don't plan on racing competitively, 2.25" to 2.5" is good.

If you have big plans for your car or will eventually go with a turbo later on, you may want to plan for that.

You will get different answers from different people since it's an open-ended question. What may be good for one person is not good for someone else. 3" exhaust is good for me since my car is getting tuned for 12psi and setup for Auto-X and Time Attack.

PTuning FTW. +13WHP/+11WTQ is a huge gain going from one full exhaust to another. More proof that PTuning > all.

2.5 is plenty big enough for any s/c setup on the tc. If you were going with a turbo I would say go 3" but surely not for the s/c ... I would tell anybody that wants to see a performance gain or different feel of your car to fix things in pairs. Match up a a header with your catback exhaust. If you have the money .... put an intake on also. Doing all by themself will not give you the "new" car feeling so pairs is the way to go. The spipe itself is restrictive to begin with. With changing your header you will be removing a cat so you will have less restriction. This is what I would tell anybody to get:

4-1 header (buy one large and one small spark plug fouler or 3 small - so you dont get a cell)

2.5" spipe

2.5" midpipe with cat and 2 resonators (that equal 30" ...so maybe 2 - 15 inche ones)

^do the above and you dont get rasp and your car will feel different and sound great. Intake is optional if you have the money and will surely add to your complete feeling of changing the way your car takes in air and pushes it out. </end>

^for the midpipe yea you can and I would tell people that sounds like a good idea for 3 reasons - 1.) you can put the correct sized resonators in from the start 2.) you can put a nice high flow cat and 3.) you will have a few bucks.

Even if the price came out to be the same, I rather tell someone the correct steps and have them PM me back telling me thank you - its a pain redoing things if you could have done things correct the first time.

I don't think 2 resonators are necessary. 1 good resonator will do the job quite fine, it is better than cluttering up your midpipe with resonators. I personally would go with an Aero or Vibrant Ultra Quiet, either of those are enough to eliminate even the most nasty rasp.

As far as headers...4-2-1 or 4-1(4-1 has to be Strup IMO)

i'm running 4-1 header , 2.5inch s-pipe , 2.5inch mid-pipe with no cat and one big magnaflow resonator 30" long 6"round body and then back to a concept g axle back

my car has a quite low rumble at idle and verry loud unique tone with a good hint of rasp at under acceleration. it is verry loud though. but i get alot people even old heads that hate the 4cyl. sound say my car sounds good. its got a nice sound to it just loud.

i would say for the mid-pipe do a high flow cat and one big resonator or 2 resonators i love the way my car sounds just to loud with just 1 resonator

ahh - i meant to say 4-1 header not a 4-2-1.

The resonator issue - i had 1 and surely 2 made the car sound A LOT better.

The MMW headers are 4-2-1 they are pretty good....with much, much more rasp.

I'm not a fan of cluttering the midpipe with 2+ feet of resonators. I mean if that was the case then why even bother getting a mid pipe, just go all resonators from the cat to the muffler, completely eliminating the midpipe.

I know it all depends on the setup since some are louder and more raspy than others.

I went with strup headers, invidia s-pipe, right after the cat I have a vibrant ultra quiet resonator welded in followed by the magnaflow cat back exhaust.

The OP already stated he didn't like magnaflow and he may be looking to go axle back instead of cat back.

I went with magnaflow simply because it is the best cat back that can be bought without going custom IMO and retains the sleeper look. 1 resonator good quality took care of my rasp throughout the RPM range and it was no longer than about 7 to 9 inches, a little wider in terms of width though.

The straight through design helped with better air flow and I still retain all of my back end pressure. Had I wanted to go with axle back I would have definitely went with the Tanabe; I think with that no resonator is needed.

skunk 2 is a really nice one. i have had the full megan system( headers all the way to the tip) = rasp cityyy.
zpi cat back ( they used a magnaflow muffler) with dc sports headers and megan s pipe = was raspy but not as bad sounded good while it lasted.
than i went with dc headers, zpi s pipe and skunk 2 catback and loved it. i had absolutely no rasp whatsover.

Nice setup.

I had to make what I had work, no $$ to keep switching it up.
