Default Black Box Install/Cable Issue

So, I installed the back box today. Got it all wire and run the vacuum hoses, but couldn't connect the ECU to my laptop to dowonload the map.

What i think the problem, is the directions indicated that I needed a straight through cable. The one I bought had a black rectanguler box hald way through the cable.

What kinda of cables have people bought? I was about to buy this one, but wanted to make sure it was the right one.

Has anyone had any similar problems/do you think that is the issue?

Thanks!

Thanks Ace, I was wondering did the cable have a box thing in the middle of it. Because the one I saw at bestbuy was similar to the one I already had.

If so, maybe the cable is not my problem then.

Also, can I drive my car without loading the map? Do you know if the one you sent me has a map on it or not. Or is there a way I can tell?

Thanks!

I think the one i sent you is the one with base tune (i had two units sold).. thats the one I was using on my car. Try driving it and see a slightly richer tune.

Yeah it has that little box thingy on the cable.. You installed the software and all? did you turn on the car while doing the upload/download?

I turned the car to the one position, but didn't turn the engine on.

Does the engine need to be on?

I figured it out last night. There was an extra step I needed to do with the cable (to assign it to the com port) that I needed to do in my computer before it would work.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, felt pretty stupid after I figured it out............unfortunately I'm not computer savy at all.

But at least i was able to get it to work. I took it for a drive and it seems to be working well, so I'm pretty happy.
