Default blown turbo oil seals :-/

well some of you have seen My custom setup well last night the turbo made a nasty popping sound and i thought I blew off a charge pipe. popped the hood to find oil in the charge piping. turbochargers.com says they will rebuild it for me under their 12month warranty, so that eases my mind a bit.

for those of you smarter than me, I cant think of any reasons that the this would happen...any ideas? its only been on the car for about a month
the car was always turbo timed for sufficient time, oil return line wasnt backed up, i have the zpi oil line kit that T's off the pressure send, anyone with a suggestion let me know. Im just having a hard time swallowing it was a bad turbo and i dont feel like replacing the turbo seals with every oil change

Were the pins removed as you clocked it?

You should also check and make sure there isn't to much gasket maker on the return side. I've seen people put to much on there, and clog the return line causing oil to backup and blow the seals out.

Secondly, make sure your return line is properly sized. In theory, you should have a -10 return line for a -3 inlet line. I know you can get away with smaller, but always error on the side of safety.

Yeah, there have been a few that clocked their turbos and not remove the pins. I'm with you, didn't think it was possible, but it sure is and it will starve the turbo for oil.

The ZPI oil lines are sized correct. You should be good there.

It may have just been bum turbo seals...rare, but it does happen.

there are two pins make sure both where removed. Things happen t/c.com will be able to tell you why it failed they are straight up about it. If it was bad seals they will tell you that, if it was a oil issue they will tell you that also.

Have you sent it to them yet?
