Boost Control By Gear

Are there any options out there besides the Apex'i AVC-R and similar boost controllers for controlling boost by gear? Do the standalones like the Hydra or the AEM do this by chance? I plan on auto-x my car a little (not going all out and planning on being really competitive) and 10psi in 1st, 2nd, and even sometimes 3rd is a little much. Considering most of the time I'd be in 1st or 2nd for an event, I'd love to be able to dial it down so I could a) get a little more traction and b) control the car better.
As stated, I know those boost controllers do this, but if I could do it with a system that might better my car as a whole, I'd rather throw the $500 towards the costs of that...

Depends on how complex you want to go.
Without a "true" standalone ecu you have some options:
Utilize a quad stage boost controller (Turbos XS for example) with a manual switch ie button to switch from one stage to another.
When road racing you will be "hitting" the button allot but with practice you can make it work quite well.
Dial in your first stage for the lowest psi you want to run...then just add a few for your second.
Utilize the 3rd and 4th stages for high boost needs for long straights etc.
Without a manual feature, road racing is tough as no 2 tracks are the same, so its hard to dial in "boost control" perfectly.
You could also use a rpm activated switch that will turn on each solenoid at a given rpm range.
But nothing will give you the flexability of a manual switch. (you can get 4 buttons if you think using just one and having to cycle around each time)

if you go the boost controller rout you are going to have to get a lower psi spring. i dont know what you have now but boost controlers dont go below the WG spring. not sure if the standalones can go below it.

Correct. There a few different ways to do something like this in the AEM. There are a lot of back-door things you can do with the AEM EMS Pro software.
WORLD racing's World electronics boost controller does that and more

Word....I need that for my Ultimate. Know where I can get one? I searched and it said GM cars have one, but not sure what it looks like. I will just go to a pull-apart and take one off a GM vehicle.

this is the set-up we use on our tC, using the Ultimate to control the AEM cylinoid. We have not tuned it boost per gear or speed yet but talking with Toan in the past it seemed like it can be done, we just havent had the time. We might tune our tC boost per speed by the time we get to NJ this year for the time attack because it is such a small track

So the AEM will control boost by speed, but not by gear. If wheel spin still exists, the speedo will jump quickly therefore increasing the boost, so is this really helpful for what I'm looking for?
Don't get me wrong, I want the AEM EMS to manage my car, but for the application I'm looking for here, would having it control boost be the best option?

This works in conjunction with the GReddy Pressure sensor right? That's how the Ultimate is able to do boost by gear correct? I was doing some reading and that's the jist I got. Man, I'm loving my Ultimate even more and I haven't even got a chance to utilize it yet...lol. I can't wait to get up there to let Toan work his magic on my stuff.
I need the following
- Tune for Time Attack street class and daily driving tune (want to keep it around 12lbs of boost for that)
- Tune for 14lbs of boost + Methanol for Drag strip (want to tune in the 2step launch control as well for that)
- Tune for the smaller tight tracks on the boost by speed most likely.
I'm sure the street tune and the boost by gear setup will be in the same tune probably, but I want to be able to turn off the boost by gear if need be and be able to set it to one boost setting despite the gear.
