so im running 2007 tc with 35,000 miles, a 5 speed, and a dezod s1 kit on 8.7lbs, blah blah and i was at the track the other day just driving the ____ outta the scion and as i slow down on the top end i hear a clanking noise, almost like a Folgers can with a bunch of bolts in it. i pulled over to my homeboys and try to diagnose to the problem only to conclude it was somewhere between the input shaft and the axles, great
anyways i drove it back to the house, meanwhile it wouldn't stay in 3rd gear and it sounded like i was supercharged not turbo'ed, ouch. put it on the lift only to find the differential pin that holds the spider gears together had wallered out the hole, broke the little bolt that kept it in place, and managed to machine out about 5 holes in the tranny case. fml
long story short i salvaged a junkyard tranny with low miles and im back on the road. the question after all that is are a lot of you guys experiencing tranny failure? ive done the obligitory burnout once and a while at the local car meets and such, but i wasnt expecting failure this early! also are there any companies that sell upgraded tranny parts? ring and pinions, input shafts, gears etc...
thanks!
thanks!
Ditto i'm on tranny #3, but 2nd one that died was put in by the dealership and they failed and thats the main reason it died, they jammed the drive shaft bearing somehow, they must have taken a hammer to it when they put it in.
3rd gear seems to be the culprit in almost all of the tranny failures. I think it's partially mis-shifting since its the most exciting and far away shift throw when you are boosted. I don't beat up my tranny but I'm boosted so I guess it depends on how you drive it more than how much power is being made.
i never had that kinda issue with the tranny except for the fact the clutch slipped all the time. maybe cause i was on the stock clutch it kept pressure off the tranny gears and various parts. mine is an 07, was boosted on 11psi with a TT simple kit for roughly a year. went to the track as often as i could and even ran drag radials for a short period.

well if u take a look at our gears its 4th gear thats the weakest link in our trans due to the way the teeth sit(thanks ptuning for this info) and for that reason they shimmed their 4th gear and are spraying oil all over 4th gear with multiple nozzles
if u have broken any other gears i feel it is just either a driving habit or your trans was just that small percentile of parts that dont quite perform to their standards

I think it depends on a lot, for me it was 2nd gear that went out, but i learned to drive stick on it. The tranny is picky it feels much better if you ____ slower, not much difference in overall speed but saves the tranny. All in all i'm never letting the dealership touch my car again, that should fix things.
Hmm i've givin my tranny hell, over 60 runs down the track N/A and on a 70 shot of nitrous with no problems, good fluid and a sure shift seems to do little harm. Cause mine should be gone as hard as I shift but its crisp as when I got it 40k miles ago. Mines an 06 though
