Default Breaking Supercharger News

I got an e-mail from my Scion sales rep.:

Team Scion,

I wanted to inform you that the TRD supercharger for the Scion tC
will not carry-over to the 2007 model year.

· TMC changed the design of the exhaust manifold, so the supercharger
simply won’t fit on the ’07MY vehicle.
· TMC also changed the Engine Management ECU so the TRD software needs
to be re-mapped.
· TMC has re-calibrated the emissions to meet ULEV II standards – again
requiring re-calibration of the TRD engine management software.

Counter-Measures
· TRD has already re-designed the affected components and are working
with TMC/Scion to receive a production vehicle so they can confirm fit.
· A TRD Engineer is travelling to Japan within the next couple of weeks
to work with TMC to re-map and re-calibrate the ECU Software.
· Launch for 2007MY vehicles is targeted for later this year. Updates
will be provided as we near the launch date.

The current TRD Supercharger still fits the 2005 and 2006 MY vehicles.

Information available to Dealers and customers via ScionASG.com and
TRDUSA.com will be updated to reflect that this product does not carry-over
to 2007MY.

I will bet that its even more pitiful than it is now

I just get more and more convinced that the s/c is a over-priced, heap of monkey dung.. I think I've finally made the choice that I am for sure going t/c

I dont wanna get this thread off-topic with this, cause I know it will end up there anyway ...

But.. I was in debate over the whole reliability issues.. but.. screw it.. if you do anything right, it will be better than if you half asssed it and had a terrible tune that would detonate your engine Besides.. I've been through so much already.. why not ride this thing til the wheels fall off.. I love learning new things about this car.. and having the s/c installed on it is not one thing I plan on

A car company is redesigning an engine for a new model year? Wow!

I think this announcement has nothing to do with, nor is it a commentary on, the reliability of the SC. It is just that the SC will not fit the redesigned tC.

I still think there are relatively few people who are having problems with their SC. I have not had a problem with mine... but I have only put about 1500 on it.

The only bad part will be if the 07 owners have to wait a year hearing it "will be out next month" like the 05 owners did

I am betting it will probably still output about the same.

I guess I saved myself a lot of time sitting in that damn Toyota waiting room getting my S/C fixed... over and over again. Glad I didn't get it done. I just got fed up of calling the dealer and they didn't know when it was getting released.

I'm with Stu. Turbo charge your tC. I was hoping the tC was toyota's way of saying "Turbo Charger" but it meant oil leak out of our s/c....

wow thank goodness i bought an 05, dont have to worry about waiting another 2-3 years for the supercharger to come out. That definetely sucks for the 07 guys. I am still curious to know how the 07 engine will drive compared to the 05-06 engine.

Sucks for the 07 guys, sorry you guys think it is a peice of crap, I absolutley love mine and 0 probs. Also if your handy at all, you can have the sc for around $2900 out the door which is the way I went and installed it myself. If I had to spend $4K+ on boost, I would definitly have gone turbo!

OK I just checked on scionasg.com and it doesn't say one thing about any changes to the 07 tC or that the S/C will not fit the tC. I don't know where this information came from but I got my money on it being false.

For the record there is nothing wrong with the TRD S/C. One person had a problem and now everyone thinks it's got reliablilty problems when it doesn't. I'm not getting into another debate over whether or not the TRD S/C has issues. Flat out it works the way it's supposed to when you LEAVE IT ALONE!

Hell it works the way it is supposed to when I tinker with it haha No worries, some people are having valid problems with mods or without, some are not having issues but think they are because they do not understand automotive basics. Weed through the crap and you will realize the vast majority of us have 0 problems, and most that think they are having an issue are not, or the issue is very very small.

Thank you! I just wish that more people could see that and not believe every single little thing they half read on the internet.

Well this is the part where I stick my foot in my mouth and shut up.

According to TRD it won't fit the 07 and the manifold is different and the ECU is as well. They are working on a redesign. That's all I know.

The re-design will be out quick, they would not make a tuner edition car and forget the "tuner parts" or would they..? hahaha. Anyways, to bad most do not get the chance to experience the sc in person. Well worth the cash spent and with even a basic upgrade like a new bypass valve that just seals better than the old, it is allot of fun for the coin. That and if toyota would stop price gouging the install cost... sales would rock on the sc. Heck my first time installing it took a whopping 6 hours and 50 minutes, 45 minutes of that was spent cussing the oil pan than under no conditions or prying or cutting of the seal would come off! Man that sucked.

Also guys do not forget, the tc is the test bed car for cool parts and modifications to existing parts which will be later implemented into camry's, lexus etc... So definitly plan on changes from year to year. Even if they are small.
