Default Cams!! From BrianCrower

I already posted this on Drivetrain but since most of u guys don't enter there, I posted here also so u guys could get overly exited. I sent an e-mail just for the heck of it, to BrianCrower, asking if they were in the works for cams for the tC, and they answered this:

"Definitely high up on the list of things to do. Just have to get the original cam line up and then the Scion tC cams are next in line. Figure a realistic 3 months though.

Thank you,

Brian"

Brian Crower is definitely good stuff. but expect a longer waiting period for the release.

RSX's k20a3's and hybrid k24's have been waiting forever for their n/a and boost cams. we were promised to have them in August 06, but still nothing seen. the only thing we have worth mentioning from BC is the stroker kit.

that just reminds me of the old adage "if you have to ask, you don't want to know"

but basically the top of the block will have to be taken apart to get to the cams, and then you take out the old cams and put in the new ones.... minimum of 4 hours of labor to have the job done right.

at about what $65-$80 dollars an hr.? Doesn't seem to bad, IF that is it only takes 4 hrs.

well as i said it would be a min, depends on the shop and the skills of their techs. in a perfect world it could be done in 4 hours

dont forget the rest of the valvetrain. usually you would want upgraded titanium valvesprings as well. heck, since you're in it, upgrade your valves. the upgraded valvetrain will allow you to rev high and make more power. if it doesnt make more power in higher revs, then when you change gears, your rpm will be in the beefy powerband.

when working with anything inside the engine, proper torque specs of every single bolt, stud, nut, is CRITICAL. you dont want the rocker assembly to let loose your cams.

Actually titanium valve springs are far from the norm when upgrading your headfor 99% of the world.. Most use a stronger steel alloy spring only.... mabey your thinking of titanium retainers and or titanium valves? Also you usually go to a stronger valve spring to prevent float under boosted conditions.. However with our smaller valved motors, float is not super common unless running high boost and or a combo of high boost / higher revs. Also a stronger spring with more seat pressure can help prevent valve float if you have the cam setup to rev higher and move your powerband up in the rev range if building a n/a high rev setup.. our 2az is not the choice for a high rev motor... Also our cars do not have rockers man....

oops, yes, i meant to say valvsprings WITH titanium retainers/valves.

if someone were to cam, they would want to rev higher, b/c thats where you'll get some nice top end. therefore, valvesprings is usually a given. valves are optional, but if u're building for boost, u might as well do it since you have the head cracked open.
