Default car jerking on dyno

so i went to AMS today here in Illinois, and was hoping to get everything done BUT....
well to start i had a couple boost leaks that were fixed before the Dyno, because they offer an option to have everything checked before it goes on the dyno
and then we find out my 1st cylinder isnt firing, which was because the injector was messing up so i got that fixed..
and then the last thing was that my MAF sensor was freaking out and wasnt letting the car go above 4k RPM... so they fixed that

and then i finally get on the dyno around 5pm...(last time i ate some food was 8AM ).....so we get strapped in and the tuner starts to mess around with the FIC. but wen i get above 4k RPM the whole car starts jerking back and forth and nothing happening. The tuner didnt even know what the hell was going on cause he has never seen anything like that before. So basically the cars not done and I need to make an appointment with another tuner who REALLY knows scions to figure out what the hell is wrong. Were guessing its something with the fuel dilivery or something but really have no idea. The pulls were in 4th gear and just the car starts to jerk. The AFR values were getting lower and lower the more you press the gas. But he did have a couple pulls where he went completely to 8k RPMS when you give it gas slowly, but at WOT the car jerks

maybe you have some idea what the hell this could be, or hear anything like this. I need some help cause i want my damn car back..

he did let me drive it home, and he did do the fuel maps and the ignition so it Idles very well and no more shaking or anything i just dont have any top end.

anyone heard of anything like this happening before?

They didn't raise your RPM's because the FIC can't do that. It does not have that feature.

In order for someone to help you though, we are going to need more information about what you have done to the car.

hey i had the exact same problem except that it would happen at 3k rpm under wot. I was told it had something to do with the fuel maps dumping to much fuel and not enough boost to even out the mixture, at idle my car would sound like it had asthma between 500 and 800 and when coming back down to 500 it would sputter as if it was about to stall out. i got tired of it so i pulled the whole kit off oh and i was tuned on FIC also.

why would you go to AMS when they specialize in DSM's?
why not go somewhere that has done scions before?

yea same for me it happens at WOT, the car just stops pulling as soon as the wastegate opens.

I am kinda thinking its not the MAF sensor because they fixed that, even the CEL turned off.

Also the car drives and idles fine, just at WOT it stops.

Id like to know more about this resistor trick

I took it to AMS because they are the best. I know they specialize in DSM but its still a 4 banger, and they did do a couple scions in the same week.

And now AMS even told me to go to another shop where they know alot more about scions, they gave me the # to Sound Performance.

So Monday at 7:30 AM i will be there and we shall see what happens.

thanks for all the help

yes AMS is the best...at EVO's and all other DSM motors.
i was gonna recommend t hat you go to SP too because they are Toyota specialists and have done several tc's and even have their own turbo kit developed for the tc.

I've done the resistor mod after my second attempt to get tuned with the AEM FIC and it worked brilliantly.

On the AEM FIC harness connect Cam MAG+ & Cam MAG- with a 2.2k Ohm resistor from radioshack. Be sure to solder it.

Now if they don't know how to set the clamp & change the O2 table to tune the FIC you need to go elsewhere for a tune.

The breakups where random & violent. She bucked bad on the dyno.
Turns out the AEM FIC had been creating noise making the ECU chuck serious CAM codes.
Here's a shot of my '05 on the dyno thrown a flame during one of those awful sounding break ups during a WOT pull in 4th.

ALso connected an OBD2 computer and it told me that the car is running rich

I will tell my tuner all of these, and ill probly go to radio shack before i get there

Most likely it is set too rich and the ECU is having large fuel trims to lean the mixture out. It's very hard to tune when you keep having random break ups. It totally ____ed off my tuner who is a really sharp dude. He spent upwards of 8 hours with me. Maybe 4-5 hours actually strapped down on the dyno.

To both our disbeliefs this resistor trick worked flawlessly. I went home on my Greddy really disappointed that I had given the stupid FIC another chance. I called up AEM and checked the forums and found out about the resistor. After I installed it the tune was almost done anyway. I drove back to the tuner 2 days later and all he had to do was clean up the WOT map a little bit.

I have a lean code right now I must clear up eventually. Probably just need to add some fuel with the FIC. It doesn't run lean because the ECU is doing its job by adding fuel. The fuel trim is most definitely out of tolerance which throws a CEL.

Good luck, any questions hit me up!
