Cleaning/Maintaining Turbine....
Hey all... To make a long story short, Ive the the greddy 18g turbine. When i first got it, it would spin freely with little effort (touching the blades). I recently had to remove the turbo for a cluch install and noticed the blades dont spin as freely as before. My question is.. is there a way to clean it without rebuilding it? I havent noticed a difference in performance... it still hits boost at the same rpm as before. Is it normal for the blades to stiffen up?
Also the blades arent making contact with the walls or anything and the shaft doesnt feel like its moving around or loose. Just feels like it needs more effort to spin.
I recently purchased an oil catch can to compensate for blow-by.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

how long have you had the turbo on? Have you tried running Motul engine cleaner to clean out any gunk in the engine and possibly in the turbo? more than likely you are comparing the turbo shaft movement to when it didnt have oil in it to now when it still has oil in it when you took it off. I'd say get some motul cleaner, pour it in the oil fill, sit at idle for about five minutes( you will hear the valves knocking, it's normal) then cut it off, and drain the oil ( it will pour out like no tomorrow). replace filter, then check the shaft movement ( after you let it cool, im sure it will be hot). if its fine, replace filter, then fill up with oil, unplug ecu, crank engine to get oil to turbo, then plug the ecu back in. if it is still kinda stiff, see about getting a rebuilt center housing.
cool.. thanks for the info.
The cars got about 28k+ and turbines got about10k+-. You might be right about compairing to oil-less and with oil. I really havent noticed a difference in performance. I think im just gonna leave it as it is, and if i DO start to notice performance slacking... ill do the motul. Thanks for the info
