Default Dezod mani problems w/ custom 3" exhaust/downpipe??

Sooooo, i'm having a custom 3" downpipe and exhaust made. I just purchased a v-band 5 bolt flange. I've been reading about a few people and their problems with dezod turbo mani's cracking, and a few instnaces with custom 3" exhausts. I think one of them was SoFlo but i'm not sure... So my question is should i do a full v-band all the way back? (my understanding is that v-bands provide for some flexability)

Or should I use the spring bolts that come with the stock exhaust and use them on the end of the downpipe along with the v-band fitting at the beginning of the downpipe.

Also, i'm looking for something as quiet as possible, any suggestions on resonators/mufflers?? i was thinking about the 33" resonator from magnaflow.

p.s. the downpipe will have a 3" cat in it too....

well, i'd like to attempt to pass emissions here in IL and after reading thats probably the easiest way. Also, it'll quite down the exhaust a lil. Plus its an added bonus that I'm being a lil more "green" LOL. As far as the flex pipe, where should it go?

So long as you have some sort of flex section in an appropriate pivotal area, you will be fine.

^ yep.

I ran my dezod kit with an aftermarket exhaust with the spring bolts, and then when I made my custom 3" I just put a flex pipe in, and there are not any signs of cracking whatsoever when i changed my kit out. And honestly, I only run a muffler with my full 3 inch exhaust. It's not really that loud. The EL manifold makes it quieter than when i had the dezod kit, but if your woried bout noise, It's not that bad.

Turbo Toyotas EL mani. As much as Todd is hated, the manifold isnt too bad. I kind of wish I just made my own though. Its the only thing that isnt custom on my kit, and I probably could have made things fit better with my own mani. Me FTL

I have it located right after the exhaust goes up over the crossmember. Its the first piece of the straight section.

You don't need a cat to pass emmisions all you need is an anti-fouler, if your don't have a check-engine you will pass. They don't do a tailpipe test for obdII cars.

^^ but i've read other posts that show that the anti fouler trick is hit or miss. I also kinda feel that having a cat in the downpipe is gonne be hit or miss as well though.... LOL i have no factual basis for that feeling, but i just feel that way.

Well the anit-fouler is $5 to try, so it couldn't hurt. And if that works then your problem is solved.

As everyone has stated. You can run whatever type of flanges you would like so long as there is a way for the exhaust to flex. If you eliminate flex all the stress is applied to the manifold and that will make any manifold crack. So put a flex in the exhaust and if you are making a new downpipe fab a bracket to bolt it to the block so it doesn't move and the exhaust can flex separately.
