Default driving untuned with internals safe?

i just got my engine rebuilt with K1 connecting rods, Wiseco low comp pistons, and cometic head gasket. My car was previously tuned but didnt finish because my car was smoking burnt oil. So now i have the engine rebuilt and put in along with my turbo kit. The tuner (CFT) said that i was pretty much almost tuned just need some minor stuff to do left to finish it. They're coming down this weekend. I just want to know if it's safe to drive in VAC only and not have any problems. remember i have internals done.

ouch, reused OEM bearings... do remeber though if you go to main studs you will have to get your main journals align honed, since the clamping force / characteristics are different than with bolts.

but to answer your question, it's fine to drive it around with out a tune just as long as you stay out of boost. However you plan to break the engine make sure you use conventional oil though. Your rings will not seat properly if you don't and you will have blow by.

no, make sure you use conventional. Basicly synthetic oil basicly does it's job TOO good for fresh rings. Causing the oil to blow by the rings, lubricating them and not allowing them to break in or match the microscopic grooves in the cylinder walls.

Hope that headgasket doesnt leak. Stock head bolts are torque to yield. Meaning they stretch once they were tightened down. Generally, after a torque to yield bolt has been used once it has to be replaced because the bolt bottoms out before the proper torque is achieved.

Doesn’t matter if you use ARP head studs or stock head bolts. You should never, never reuse head bolts, main studs, or rod studs. Every single time (no matter what we are referring stock or brand name) you torque bolts they loose there strength. We had someone come to our maintenance shop and give a demonstration (keep in mind I don’t remember the actual numbers, these are only examples) the first time he torqued the bolt down day we went to 100ft lbs of tq the psi was 1200. After taking the nut and bolt apart, we re-torqued it the second time (keeping the torque wrench set exactly the same) it was sitting around 950psi, after a third time of doing this the psi went to 750. Just so you are following this is using a pressure gauge to measure the pressure the bolt will be at once properly torqued.
