I think our ecu has some good enrichment strategies already built in, plus ignition advance to make good cold starts. You will just need to tweak it for the winter.. on the summer you will need to change the start up area. It will be a challenge i think for piggybacks to use one summer and winter tune esp on extreme temps changes

One should always stay conservative on timing...use boost to make the power especially with e85. Timing equals...KABOOM!..One thing I noticed you will hardly ever get knock with E85. In time however if your making over 350whp them stock rods are going to buckle like never before..guranteeeeeddddd.

Agreed, however timing is not the safest way to make power. I run on E85 my self, not too crazy on the timing more boost.

preignition is still a concern with e85 especially if you add too much timing

Its still a concern but you are not taking full advantage of switching to the fuel unless you are adding boost and a few degrees of timing over a 93 map

I agree. You cannot optimize timing street tuning, period. The dyno is the only way. MBT is MBT, only a dyno graph will show it. I ran 9 degrees advanced timing near redline with WMI on pump gas.... nobody would have the ***** to just plug in those numbers street tuning, that's asking for detonation.

You need to get the timing where it needs to be, if it is too "conservative" as some say your egt's will skyrocket.

there you go, MBT is MBT.. really no point adding more timing if MBT is reached unless the goal is destroying the motor

You should know where your timing needs to be or you should not even be tuning

I had to think about this for a few minutes... at first, it made no sense to me. I think what you are saying is one should have the smarts to have a "general" idea on where the timing should be?

I have a 50 trim t3/4 turbo with a .63 exhaust housing running 9.8 to 1 compression with a 100ml wmi jet and a 35% meth mix. I want to run 22 psi. Where should my timing be?

I don't know anyone in the world who could answer that question without Dyno tuning the car.

Beyond that, WOT is one thing, but optimizing timing (especially with a standalone) can ONLY be done on a dyno.

" ok lets drive up a hill at -15 vacume @ 3000 rpm, my butt feels an increase in tractive effort" LOL "

ugh

of course your not going to know the EXACT MBT but you should have a general idea of where your timing needs to be

you people are too literal

So, this isnt really a build thread, but I ran at the track today at IFO... It was 95-98* out all day - it sucked bad

On street tires = bad idea

Best time was like a 14.2 lol
Traps were between 110-112
Also I was getting massive heatsoak - iat's were really high and causing it to run really rich - like 10.5-11.0 (on a gas scale)

This was on my setup on 17 psi (built bottom end - 9:1 comp, E85, 60-1)

Should be going to a local track soon at night in oct when the temps are 60-70
