Engine Dampener
I had my engine dampener installed today and now I get noise in the cabin. Like engine noise. It seems a lot louder! Nothing is being damaged and everything is on tight and it seems to be working fine. but it just make the engine sound wierd!? Does anyone else notice this? I also have a DC front tower bar witch makes engine clearences hard to fit with the front cal. There are also adjustment to make the dampener not as tight. Right now I have it on the tightest level. That is how it came.

This is also at IDLE. When I first started it up after install it sounds strang. My tech at my shop "Gregs Japanese auto" said this is common for engine dampeners to make the cabin have more noise or vibration. I have no vibration but I do have more engine noise. ????

yeah.. that's normal... a few layers of sound deadening can help with the vibrations.. but otherwise...
yea... it's new.. it's loud... and it hits you right when you first start up your engine the very first time after it's installed.

is the noise level really bad with the dynamat still? i really want to get this or the engine mounts to smoothen up my daily driving. the drivetrain lash ____es me off in traffic and low speed situations like parking lots. also, shifting is expected to smoothen out. anyway, just wondering how bad interior noise is with sound deadening.

I run not one piece of Dynamat. One cause of the increased noise some unit experience is the length of the damper needs to be perfect. Its not shipped from Ingalls at the perfect length. IF YOU DONT adjust it chances are a preload on one or both of the brackets is causing the noise to be heard clearer and more often. Both mounts/dampers will cause added noise and vibration...but you can remove the damper in less than 2 minutes if you want your car silent for a road trip or things like that. Can you do that with inserts NOPE!

As stated in other thread I have gave my views and helped come up with some ideas for the original poster to reduce his in cabin noise. I am not here to argue with you on which product works better. Thanks and Ryan9800 if you have anyother questions about your ETD please Pm me.
What is ETD? What does everyone have there stiffy set at? Out of the box it is at it's stiffiest and thats what I have it set at.
Dynamat is a good idea a bit tackey but who is going to notice..?
I drove it last night and the good news about this part is, when shifting gear is much easyer to slid into gear instead of bounce into gear. It Does make shifting easyer and smoother. I think I just as well keep it and slap some of that Dynamat on it and call it a day.
Note: make sure to put a rubber fitting over that P/S Line it rubs up against the stiffy. check GOLDSBORO pick.

The Stiffy makes a Great difference. I just took mine off of my S/C tC, and I have lost a great deal of traction due to wheel hop from the motor torquing so much more. But hey, I am going to sell the tC.
I had my Stiffy on with Dynomat and it really wasn't that bad in the vibration and noise area. Plus you will get used to the noise, and it is well worth the extra traction you get.
P.S. if anyone wants one, I have my old one for sale..

An ETD is an engine torque damper or a STiffy. The kit is not shipped at its firmest setting it is shipped at the softest setting almost. Go to www.ingallseng.com and read the "How to adjust your Stiffy" instructions. The key to dynamat is to trim it smaller than the brackets by a 1/4" and you will never see it. Hope this helps.
