Default Future Turbo tc questions.

Hi, so I basically got my turbo kit lined up, and once the transaction goes through, all should be well anyways. I used to own a SRT4 and a swapped 3s celica, so im not new to turboed cars. But in the tc world yes.

So questions I have to you turbo guys

For the tc motor what weight oil do you guys run? Stick with 5w-30 or up the weight give or take?

Also with the added turbo system. Do you guys usually fill 4.5 quarts in motor or?

I will have it tuned at 8psi, which I heard is safe for our motors. I would rather have a conservative safe tune then to push numbers. I hope anything from 250-280whp is good enough for me.

The kit comes with a AEM FIC so that will be my source of tuning, but i don't really plan on changing up the 8psi tune once i get it.

Another big concern of mine, which I have done some researching is. Im going to be running the stock clutch till it goes, which hopefully will last a while. But for aftermarket clutch's I was thinking a exedy stg1 should hold those power levels correct?

Thank you guys for your time. Can't wait to be boosted.

Since your new I won't jump on you like I would lol. I've been warned already from all high and might highvoltage (power trip mod). But anyways to answer all those question it would be a great idea to use the search feature. Trust me you will be amazed on how good the results are. By searching you will know plenty of stuff about the Tc. Goodluck

Exedy stage 2 is good.
My exedy stage 1 only lasted 1 pull 265-300 whp. @8 psi.

For $50 more I would go w/ the act 390 street disc.

I use this oil.

Btw. What kit are you going with.

My boy Kurt had stock clutch at 300 whp @ 8 psi and it slipped bad after he made a pass at the track.

I don't plan on tracking it. Just street pulls from rolls most likely. I will try to make it last. thanks though

You wouldn't happen to know anything about those oil question do you>

No. Not really sure about the oil. I'm sure someone w/ Useful info will chime in.

The search sometimes sucks. You could go thru 20 pages of topics before you find what you want. So again. Either give dezod, Ptuning etc. a call. Or wait for someone that can help to chime in.

10w30 or 10w40 is what i go with, i take into consideration the milage and choose an oil based on that unless its a fully build engine then i start with a 40 or higher if needed. I stuck with 5w20 with my personal car till i racked up the miles then swapped over to 10w30. 07-up tc's call for 5w20, 05-06 call for 10w30. i must have gone over a year turbocharged with 5w20 till 50k miles then i went to 10w30. I dont know if it was the absolute best way to go but never noticed any adverse affects, engine tear down will tell that tale.i do suggest synthetic as they do not break down as easily.

Thanks! good info. My tc has almost 62k on it. I was planning on going with amsoil. With that mileage it still might be okay to run 5w-30?

I used 5w-30 mobil 1 full synthetic. Depending on your climate you may wanna go with a 10w or not, really depends on your summer/winter climate.

Stock clutch will last a little while, however i suggest an ACT Xtra duty clutch.

8lbs somewhere around 280whp-300whp will last a long long time. Have fun!

I live in Mi and winter will be coming within the next 3-4months. So I probally will stick with 5w-30 Amsoil.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the kit's wg spring is a 6psi spring, so i'll run it at that to even make the clutch last longer. No digs hear, just a usually roll out pull.

And thanks. Yup looking to have to some, and hopefully make it last a while.

Btw gonna do a compression test very soon. Hoping to get 180 across the boards. After owning the car for a year, i feel the motor is very solid.

here's my 2 cents on whole deal... If you are seriously considering getting a stronger aftermarket clutch in the near future, then I suggest you install one before you start the turbo kit. That way you dont have to worry about not having enough space to work with on the clutch install. You can certainly do the clutch further down the line, it might just be more of a PITA to do.
I just think that doing both together it would be less work for you in the long run.

Yeah, I was thinking that, but I would like to make the stock one last a while at 6 pounds just to see how far I can get with it. Btw is the tc's tranny a easy drop? I have good knowledge of working on my cars. I guessing its just simple install just like any other toyota?

I would recommend some sort of upgraded clutch whether it be an ACT or Exedy. As for oil I personally like 10w40 synthetic minimum for anything boosted.
