Default Greddy turbo timer install guide. (with pictures)

Ok so yesterday b4 I went to work I installed my greddy turbo timer. It is fairly easy as long as you know what you are looking for. I will do a step by step for you to make it easier, also add pics. For and english owners manual go here http://www.greddy.com/img/PHP/products/pdf/685.pdf.

Disclaimer: This is for 2005/2006 tC's. I have not seen the IGN harness for the 07 and up but i do know the ECU is different and i do not know which wire is the VSS for the 07 and up's.

Helpfull tools list:

1. Wire stirpper
2. Electrical Tape
3. A sharp knife being able to strip wire with out cutting it.
4. A soldering iorn (not needed i am just ****)
5. Solder (not needed)
6. Philips head screw driver
7. 10mm rachet and socket setup
8. dremel (cutting wheel)

Wire designation for Turbo timer and car wires:

1. Red 12V constant / red wire on the ignition harness in steering column.

2. Blue IGN 1 / Blue wire ignition harness in steering column.

3. Green IGN 2 / Yellow wire ignition harness in steering column.

4. Brown Parking brake/ black wire at parking brake switch.

5. Purple VSS / ECU 2nd plug from top pin 17 (also a purple wire)

6. Black ground/ Any where you kind find a spot that is attached to the frame.

Instructions:

Step 1: Take apart entire center console. take out cup holder, take of gear selector fairing, remove lower centerconsole with arm rest, take out clock and ac controlls.

Step 2: Cut out a big enough hole to place the harness threw the cubby hole. (dremell makes it easy)

Step 3: Place the lower centerconsole back in car do not full attach at this time, due to the fact you need to be able to mess with wires still.

Step 4: Remove the plastic piece that is behind the sterring wheel so you can get to the Ignition harness. You can remove the 2 screws by turning the wheel 90 degrees to the right to remove one and then 180 degrees from current posistion to get the other screw. now you will be able to just snap it off.

Step 5: remove the glove box since you will be needing to tap into the vehicle speed sensor (VSS)

Step 6: Place turbo timer into cubby hole.

Step 7: Now take your brown wire route that to the Parking brake switch and splice the wires toghther.

Step 8: disconect battery due to the fact you have to splice into the 12 volt constant in the ign harness.

Step 9: Disconect the plug that goes to the ign switch (the place where you put your key)

Step 10: Now seperate the wire for easy striping with your knife. ( may need to cut some electrical tape that is bounding the wires.)

Step 11: Now route the harness of the turbo timer up next to the radio and threw the hole leading to the Steering column / IGN harness.

Step 12: now connect the wire together using electrical tape. (and if you **** like me solder too)

Step 13: now reconect the ign harness clip.

Step 14: Route purple wire to the ECU for the vehicle speed sensor.

Step 15: Now find the VSS for a ECU pin out locating the VSS go here and go to page 26 find the ECU code T-21US Find the bubble that has three letters in it like this SPD. That will be your VSS. It is a purple wire. http://www.greddy.com/img/PHP/products/pdf/806.pdf

Step 16: Now find a ground some where under there, any where you like.

Step 17: Put every thing back togther reconect battery and off you go.

That is it, it should take between an hour to an hour and a half if you follow my guide. I did this because no where on any forum is there a write up on how to install the greddy turbo timer or any other turbo timer so i figured id do it to help out my fellow turbo guys.

Any questions feel free to PM me and i will answer the question as soon as i can.

I wouldn't call solder "****" I would call it the absolute minimal. Twisting wires in your car together without solder is like $#itting and not wiping your @$$ afterward. And to add.. .t-taps are like wiping.... but only with one square of toilet paper. Solder everything you connect in your car and you wont have issues down the road. And personally I would cut the wires, slide heat shrink over them, solder all three ends back together in a way that you can slide the heat shrink back and then shrink it down. Electrical tape isn't the best way to go, but will suffice for something like this.

Not taking away from your writeup though, good job.

Nice write up. I agree with engifineer, but I would like to add that dealing with the IGN1 & 2 I would recommend you HAVE to solder. Those wires draw a lot of amperage during starts and could overheat (fire!) with a crap connection.

I used those taps in the past too. They were fine for a while, but eventually, the vibrations from my car made them come loose. Most of the time, they work, but they are a PITA when you are trying to figure out where you are having an electric problem. I solder everything now and haven't had any problems since.

FYI PTuning now makes a turbo timer adapter harness for the tC for $20. You'll still need to solder the Greedy wiring to the adapter harness but this can be done out of the car and you won't have to cut into the factory wiring.

I cant yes to everything. But I can say that this will at least tell you the wires that you might have to tap into and should point you in the right direction.

The door locks have to be locked manually when you take the key out. The switch can be used but the key fob cant work when the car is running. If there is a way on the newer year I dont know.
