Default How can I avoid cutting my Crash Bar?

If you haven't figured it out I'm planing to upgrade my ZPI stage 0 to a stage 1 and have read that you need to cut the crash bar. What have people done to avoid this? Smaller intercooler, extend pipe?

You can have a smaller intercooler with custom pipes, it is a option that we have a design for I believe. Double check with Kenny-but I do know that regardless, it can be done as it has been.

You can use an intercooler like ours, but with ZPI's charge pipes, it may require some modification.

Depends on your power goals and the flow rate of the intercooler. I am not sure what the core material is made of on the ZPI I/C, but ours is bar and plate and quite efficient. It loses .5 PSI at 8-10PSI and will support 450HP despite it's smaller size. It is quite thick to compensate for the height loss, which is the major advantage of it.

Retention of your safety with still power in mind is priceless.

In regards to "modification" I would think as in trimming or connecting (extra pieces) of piping? Also from the responses it seems that people cut the crash bar because the intercooler is so large that it extends to the crash bar? Or is it to prevent cutting the bumper to make it fit? Lets say if I had a bumper with a big mouth (GT touring) will I still run into this problem?

Correct, as I do not know where their charge pipes are oreinted, you may have to cut or add pipes for it to fit perfect. There is also a possibility it might be a direct fit unit as well. I do know that our intercooler requires some trimming of the OEM bumper and including some of the Kaminari one as well. (This is primarily due to the depth of the core) Larger mouth ones would require less trimming in theory, but still may require some. Here are pics of various models:

Well you can always just completely remove it instead of cutting it .

Yes, the larger intercooler is large in terms of it extending into the crash bar. You don't have to trim the bumper in order for it to fit. But the smaller cores don't have to cut the crash bar, but you have to trim the bumper....So, I guess you just take your pick of which you want to tackle.

Naw, it's not, but wouldn't you agree that if you saw that large of a FMIC on a car that you probably would not want to mess with it... And they say Size Doesn't Matter...
