Default How much pull do you get when you accellerate with SC?

I test drove the Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged on Friday and I had a lot of fun in it. The Cobalt SS has so much pull when I switch gears and accellerate. That was so much fun.

My question is, does the tC Supercharged have that much of a pull when you gear up and accellerate?

I don't know the weight of the Cobalt SS, but at 2900+ lbs, will the SuperCharged tC be able to ditch the SuperCharged Cobalt SS?

yes if u have the 9psi pulley it will. Cobalts tach out quickly. Cobalt is heavy but not all that. 185whp around there. torque is around the same.

I eat stock cobalts / saturn ions at the track with ease. Best I have seen a cobalt ss run is a 14.7 and the ion a 14.9. I run a consistant 14.3 now.

The sc feels pretty stock around town, but once your over 1/2 throttle it is very noticable. Then once you get past 4500 rpm at full throttle she rips very hard.

I'm pretty sure stock cobalts and tc's with just the supercharger run around the same 1320 time, of 14.6-14.7

Yep stock sc-tc and stock cobalt both run about the same. My tc ran a 14.7 with sc and no mods. Ions seem to be a tad slower.

Why? They're made out of plastic.

If anything I'd assume it'd weigh less. Plus, the extra half doors are so cheap they probably weigh close to nothing.

But anyways, the Redline weighs a little more than a stock tC while a regular Ion weighs a little less than a stock tC. A tC with a supercharger probably weighs close to as much as an Ion Redline.

im really starting to wish trd made a roots style for the tc...
i know it would have clearance issues, but damn, i want to feel the charger before 4500, that gives me 2000 rpm to play with! i dont always want to be flooring it to have fun...

this was stupid on trds part, imo. they liked the centrifigular design so it wont be as hard on the internals, but now everyone will be flooring their tc till redline for sure to have fun.

I never said any of that, I said it starts to rip hard at 4500, it is definitly noticable before that. And you do not have to floor it to have fun, with a good bypass valve anything over 1/2 throttle is dwfinitly more powerfull than stock by a long shot.

Also a roots blower heats soaks allot worse than this style. How do I know? I have run race engines for years with ogura sc's and eaton sc's. They would however offer allot better bottom end grunt.

The roots style also provides a MUCH more linear response, so your average power output is higher. I would think the only reasons they did not use it were cost and clearance issues. They are a little more complex and would require an intercooler to get the most out of them.

For thier size the ion isnt too heavy, about 2700 lbs I think. The plastic does help. That is the only reason I think my old SC1 would make a fun project, the plastic body and small size makes for a 2300 lb car, you could probably get it down close to 2000 lbs very easy.

Will automatic tCs be able to have that kind of pull even though the driver doesn't shift gears?

Probably not, I'm guessing, because its a 4 speed, the gears are longer, and there's more drivetrain loss with an auto compared to a manual.

The auto tC has much longer gears, which does hurt the accelleration (I have driven both my manual and an auto). Plus, with the stock auto, it is set up to shift at a good mix of economy and pull. However, I believe there is a good ESK (electronic shift kit) out for it now if I am not mistaken. ScionDad was trying one out if I remember correctly.

The tC looks better then both cars I have to say and we will last longer and have a better resale value..... .....After hearing this I am thinking of actually picking up a supercharger....only if I could take out those ugly SRT4s........

I have the NST 9 psi pulley and my car is fully tuned via Unichip and puts down 250whp on pump gas but I must say that I have felt Honda's with VTEC pull harder than the S/C. I will be doing water/meth injection with 104octane on the dyno probably this weekend just to get the highest possible whp number possible and then its time to sell and go turbo with a new Tc. Just my personal opinion but centrifugal S/C's blow and I'm not talking about boost.

BTW. I would never buy a Saturn Ion or a Cobalt SS just on looks alone. It may be fun to drive but how fun can it be when your embarassed to be seen.

They need to learn how to drive. You beat the driver, not the car. Even motor trend (known for not getting the best times possible) hit a 14.1 with the cobalt SS. That's WITHOUT the stage 1 & 2 you can add from the factory.

The best I've seen for a bone stock SS was a 13.9.

Also, the ion redlines are actually slightly faster then the cobalts because of the smaller/lighter rims.

14.7 & 14.9's, lol.. They should have their cars taken away.
