Default Injen CAI with Turbo/SC?

Hey fellas, and gals of course, I just installed my Injec CAI and i love it. However, i was thinking i wanted to go N/A but now i just want more power. Im thinking of going for the TRD supercharger because i want my TC at about 250hps...nothing much more than that and as the looks of it it can happen with a S/C. I wanted to know if having my Injen CAI will affect any installation on my S/C or turbo whenever that happens...Also...for any S/C users out there, does your MPG get hit hard? if your driving with a light foot of course... Thanks guys

it will effect it in that it won't work at all unless you cut off everything behind the MAF.

Default wait wait wait

So how do you use a CAI with a turbo or super charger then? i dont really undersatnd. Your kind of saying that iit is usable and it also isnt unless everything behind the MAF is shut off...so does that mean that me installing the lang arm filter is not going to work? For a super charger is the MAP replaced completely? Not too sure how it works

You might be able to use it...I havent really looked...just the one pipe, because the TRD Supercharger includes a new intake system....as long as you take off the box you can put on a new intake which they have...or custom one to the lower left of the front bumper for a CAI for S/C...not much more of a gain...might as well just wait for an intercooler for the S/C....I believe ZPI has one...water to air

^ZPI doesn't have the i/c setup I'm running, it was a one-off and I provided the i/c

And I was serious about cutting off everything behind the MAF location on the intake.

The supercharger comes with a completely redone intake system with some fatty flexible rubber/siliconical hosing. The only part of the aftermarket intake you will be able to physically attach to the car will be whatever comes after the MAF port.

Everything behind it needs to be >cut off< so you can clamp the hose onto it. You may need to check the diameter on the hose versus the diameter of the intake piping as well. If there's too much of a difference you won't really be able to clamp it that well...if at all.

Not many people have done that due to the fact that you're talking a $250-300 piece of aftermarket aluminimuimum and cutting it to pieces.

If you have an Umnitza, it'll just replace your airbox. That's what I did. I didn't notice any real gains other than being able to reeaally hear the BPV on high RPM shifts.

Default well

that kind of sucks i just bought the intake and now if i want a S/C it goes to waste =/ how lame is that. Maybe i can use the long arm extension that leads into the fender wall down below but other than that it seems like its trash for such a nice intake. Maybe I will go down to Scion Evolution here in San Diego and see what people have set up in their tC's to get some ideas. Thanks guys...oh, and is the S/C worth it or should i save up some more for a Dezod or Turbonetics?

How much money are you willing or able to throw at your car to make it run right?

Default good question

Well, im looking to spend about 6-7k within 3 years or so. Now that includes the supercharger or Turbo and i know its a hefty chunk of change. This spending will take me a long while to finish and im kind of gathering information on what i really need as i am completely new to the tuning game. I know i want the NST pullys, a good turbo or S/c and then a full cat back exhaust, headers, meth injecters, but i do not want to keep the engine loud as hell. Im open to suggestions on what to get first and how i can potentially build a 230-250hp tC. That is my goal. It will take a long time and be fun. Oh im also looking to buy 18's soon so that may or may not be in the cost i have yet to decide upon that however.

Thanks fellas.

When I had a matrix people who had the superchargers ended up getting intakes and having certain places tune the A/F ratio. I think that can apply to this. If we get an intake and get it properly tuned to the point where it can compensate with the correct amount of fuel to the max amount of air it can use maybe it could use an intake.

Does anyone know how to get more power out of the supercharger beside changing the pulley? I already have the ZPI 9lb pulley.

I bought a cheap celica CAI and cut it up and made a short ram. I then made a sheet metal box to go around it to cut down on the intake air temp. The maf mounted right on and one of the brackets on the new intake mounted right onto the brake fluid res. You can really hear to s/c at idle now. I could'nt feel any gain in power however.

if you're looking into 220-250 HP, thats not hard with a turbo....

but you're like me, new to FI, so you're probably as cautious as me.

for sheer reliability, the TRD supercharger(unchanged) is the only option. but that cuts out the header, new pulley, etc.

for easy, "cheap" good power, go with a nice turbo kit....you can get 250+ hp from just a turbo, no exhuast or anything for like 45-5500. then you can go exhaust, possibly pulleys(i like my NST crank one)

good luck consider a turbo for that power lvl

For '05-'06 superchargers, you get a bottom portion of the intake box, filter, and intake tube - you need to use your old stock intake box for the top portion (so if you get a CAI/Short Ram, and you're planning on getting the TRD S/C, you'd better keep your old intake top!). Although I can't confirm this, I have read that the '07 S/C may come with a full intake replacement...but I'm not 100% positive.

Also, if you wanna use the CAI with the S/C, you may want to invest in an engine management system, since you're gonna run lean with just the TRD re-flash...especially if you get a pulley upgrade.[/b]
