Default Installing A Supercharger

Has anyone actually installed the supercharger themselves? I am really considering purchasing a used one and wanted to know a few things. First, If I get a used supercharger what is it that I should look for to make sure I am not buying an expensive paperweight. Second, Is it unbelievably difficult to install in your garage? Obviously no warranty so I might as well install it myself. I have decent experience around cars but admittedly this will be the most expensive item I will install on any car. And Finally can I run the supercharger without the reflash, But!! installing and tuning a Greddy Blue E Manage. The only reason why I ask is because I heard you lose 20 hp if you have it reflashed. That kindof defeats the purpose of making power to me. Thank you for any help and knowledge.

theres articles online that list everything that comes with the kit and give it a visual inspection to look for any damage, the rest you'll just have to install it and see how it runs.if you have some some mechanical skills and tools you could do, get someone to help you. You shouldnt run it without the reflash, but i dont think a 20min. ride to get it tuned is gonna hurt anything just dont accelerate hard and keep it in the low rpms.

I've heard that the stock ecu re-learns, maybe someone with experience in tuning can give some info on this.

I have seen that many times. It's a matter of stating an individual`s opinion. How is that dumb? Seriously, I have no respect for the supercharger, it is very very weak. I am power crazed! Hahaha, not trying to sound like a jerk at all. ;-)

The supercharger is actually a very solid piece of equipment. From my understanding it is a Vortech based blower with the ability to handle over 400hp. Over engineered in a way so as to work well with the scion platform. in no way is it a "weak" part, very high quality IMO. Treat it right and it will treat you right. just because it does not take your scion to the brink of explosion, does not mean it is not a great way to get some power out of your car.

on another note. an buddy of mine installed his supercharger in his driveway. After helping him install it to a degree and watching him through the process here is my advice.

1)first review the install manual.
2) have a dealership already lined up to do the reflash. call around if you need to. DO NOT DRIVE ON THE SUPERCHARGER WITH OUT THE PROPER TUNE.. heed my advice. it is possible mind you but Strongly not advised. if you must. have a boost gauge installed and do not get into boost. stay in vacuum,
3) buy a pretapped oil pan or make sure you have already planned out how to do your own. it can be a bit of a difficult process if this is your first type of install
4) change your oil to synthetic if you already haven’t done so. I believe the super charger guys are running 10W-30 motor oil.
5)Have a friend with some time on their hands to help you out. 2 heads are better than one.
6) make sure you have the proper vacuum hoses and a functional oil return line.
7) be prepared to have the car taken apart a few days incase you run into any snags.
Take your time and enjoy the learning process

The super charger is not as weak as people think, add meth injection and a cai and a good tune and you will have good numbers. All of which a decent turbo kit has already minus the meth which replaced with a fmic.

Boost doesnt hurt the motor, power does. I could be running 100lbs of boost and still be at 300WHP and be fine.

has anyone ever told you flat out.... you're a moron?

at 100 PSI your block would expand and when your pistion hit top dead center it would crack or go through a wall. boost does hurt the motor you are FORCEING more air then is supposed to go into the engine. the tC motor is build to handle boost because they had plans for the super charger. thats why it can handle 14psi on a stock block.

90% of the time i see your posts they contain no usefull or educated information. i now go back to my original question.

has anyone ever told you. you're a moron?

LOL, he built the car himself and did everything to it. OBVIOUSLY he knows what he is doing and actually helped me out with my car problems, everything he said to do worked. Trust me, this guy is one of the best out there. He even knows the owner of Turbonetics for Christs sake. Prolly has the fastest Prelude in the USA, street driven that is. His set up is good for 1,200WHP and he is running 30lbs, 1600cc injectors, 2 BOVs, etc. It's seriously sick.
