It's not a matter of letdown - it's that not everything was completed when I took the car. If I had a choice and a 2nd car, i would have left it there so it would be completed fully.

Perry was NOT there - he works for Homeland Security and was stuck out in Israel for something.

I'm thinking it's a fouled spark plug - which is OK - i haven't changed them yet.

 

Yep - ALL of the spark plugs were fouled - it was running THAT rich.

The car's back up and running again! Woohoo! Perry tuned it with a very conservative tune, as it's still breaking in and not everything's in yet (No boost controller or Dezod EMS).

The result: 215 WHP, 205 WTQ @ 7 PSI.

I AM running into a problem with something else though - the Emanage, or more likely, the PnP harness. The PnP harness plugs in fine, but for some reason, I get nothing on the Speedometer. No speed reading at all. Plus, the ABS, BRAKE, TPM, and CEL warning lights are on. The CEL was read as a problem with Speed Sensor A...

Is there something that needs to be changed with the wiring harness?

glad to hear it's running again... did you find out why it was running so rich?

 

How come the dyno RPM's are so compressed? It starts after the engine reaches peak torque. At least you got it into open-loop before you let'er ripp (I think).

 

It was running too rich cuz of no engine management, and I didn't reset the ECU at all.

The RPM's are compressed on the Dyno sheet because we had to resize it a little. Since it's an auto tC, Perry had to run it up to about 3000 rpm and let it shift into 2nd, then he let loose.

She's runnin great now.

Just to make sure your A/T Dyno pull was done in 2nd gear? I would like to know so when I run a dyno I can set it up the same way.

 

Yes, done in 2nd gear. I have a video of the dyno but it's not good quality (taken with my cell phone's camera).

Well I can say from personal experience I've blown 4 GK Tiburon Engines with the Ripp SDS setup, and yes I know what I'm doing... A lot of people have had issues with Ripp and their business practices and products.

Sounds like he needs to throw it back into the garage and tear into it himself. Sounds like Nick would have done a better job with a self-install....

 

Nick, is this the same guy who told you that painting the Intercooler was a good thing? Common sense should tell you if you that if you paint/seal/cover an item that is meant to receive direct air flow that even on a minimal scale it will become less efficient by painting it.

 

A lot of people say they've had bad experiences with Ripp, but I only know of 1 person personally that has (He had a Focus, though Ripp says they've never worked on one... i don't really care) and he now drives an Auto S/C'd tC. Based on Karl's experience, i'd say they're good. My experience was pretty good - I just had some underlying problems with my car.

The guy who soldered the wires is a different guy than who painted the IC. And thermal dispersion paint works fine :p

anything you regret doing? anything you thought worked out great? Anything Ripp told you you should do after the fact that we can learn from. You seemed to have a hiccup there. Was it just Israel and slow shipping or is there anything that could have been avoided?
