defiantely a good thread as i am debating the s/c in the next year or 2. that way its still covered by warranty, and i'm just wanting it to say that i've got it. and not planning to go to the track since mine will be full blown show car by then(show car not a trailer _____)

I have had my tC since they were debuted in the spring of 2005. I added the supercharger on in fall of 2005 and was the only the second to do so in the state of KY at that time. Anyways, the 1st SC went a rye in the fall of 2006 yet I had it replaced a month later. They gave me a whole new charger with a TRD support bracket without any charges which is exactly why I went the SC route because of warranty. I have now had my 2nd SC for 2 and 1/2 years now with no problems. You can see my list of mods below and everything runs well. I will tell you one thing, you will never ever be content with any single mod you do to your car as it becomes any addiction! I would say I have around 230 hp from the flywheel and still am craving more ponies!

I had the 05/06 supercharger installed on my TC at approx 25,000 miles. I now have almost 80,000 miles clocked on my TC, so ive driven about 55,000 miles with the s/c installed.

I've only had one issue that bothers me with my 05/06 s/c kit:
The clamp for the airbox located on the side of the blower will not stay shut; but this is pretty much hit or miss, I've heard of others having no problems with their clamps.

I did have to replace one idler pulley at 60,000 miles. This is another slight problem with the 05/06 s/c that comes with two idler pulleys.... the 07/08 s/c kit has a revised airbox and now has only one idler pulley. Don't let a bad idler pulley make you think that your whole supercharger is bad. There is pretty much nothing I could do to prevent my idler pulley from going bad... there is so much tension on them that eventually due to wear and tear it's bound to go bad.

My s/c TC is still running like a champ! Just make sure you get a good install and always give it a nice warm-up on cold-startups before boosting.

I don't post here much any more but this is one thread I should post an update to...

My original sc eventually failed and it took the motor with it. Everything was replaced under warranty to the tune of around $10k (new SC, short block, etc). It was an 05-06 unit on an 06 tC. I was running the NST 9.5lb pulley and the dealership deemed it in no way had anything to do with the mechanical failure.

The SC unit that replaced my 06 unit is tagged as an 2007 unit and while it looks physically similar there are some differences you can see when they're compared side by side. It also came with the 07 install manual and has the 07 pulley configuration (with a single TRD idler pulley instead of the dual set up). The air box, charge pipe and bpv on mine are all 05-06 as is the oil pan and TRD tune. This set up seems to run smoother and quieter than the last one ever did. I have had zero issues other than a shredded belt at 5k mi.

The only mods I have reinstalled were the Forge 007 bpv, SM dual catch cans and the Injen CAI.

So long as the unit isn't a left over original 05-06 unit i don't think you need worry about it's reliability.

i found this thread looking for reliability issue with turbo. I am in the same boat deciding if s/c or turbo is more reliable. i guess ultimately, its a toss up. but lets hear some common problems ppl have in either system.

knowing this we can all watch out before they happen.

also, if i were to s/c my 05 at a dealer now, will they throw in a 09 s/c kit and what warranty and how long?

thanks.

This statement is pure speculation.

I have also have a s/c for 3k miles and love it. Gas mileage will go down a few mpg.
Installing the s/c yourself is the only way to make sure the install was done correctly!

The burning of the oil is due to the supercharger sucking in the hot air and oil that goes up and through there, simply put a breather on the valve cover and take off the hose that goes conected from the valve cover to the supercharger inlet oh seal the inlet on the blower, if you block this off (eliminate it) you will not waste any oil at all just the one that the engine burns on its own and you will gain back some ocatane that is lost due to oil being in the intake charge. i did it and it works great.

I have had mine since i bought the car, it has now about 19'000 miles on it, it was one of the last ones that were sold in 2008 before they stoped selling them, till this day the only problem i had was that the bolt from the rear motor mount bolt got loose and almost fell off. no charger issues what so ever, i have the nst 9.5 psi pulley, header, better air filter, 10w 30 mobil 1 synthetic (which reduces a lot of the charger gear noise), and a custom borla exhaust ( with no rasp. lol). if you get it tune it with some other management, the trd program sucks. imo its a great kit if you take care of it and maintain it. so far i have not heard of anyone blowing up their engine with the supercharger.

I was surprised to see this thread pop back up...sadly, I never did get the money together and now that the charger is discontinued, there goes my idea of cheap(er) boost for the tC. To those that have one, enjoy it

Runs Perfect. 11.6 AFR at wot
I check my oil everytime i fill up and every morning before driving.. I have not lost ANY oil.

I have no oil leaks..

No bearing failure as of yet!

With the mods i have its ALOT Faster, Pulls alot harder, And deff wastes more gas!

I DO not run mobile syntetic. I run there clean 5000 oil and have never had any engine problems!

If u could do it again, I would!

And just for some honda love, Best friend has a 08 si.. from a 40 roll to 100. i get about 8 car lengths!

Thats all , Kthnx BYE
then i bought his kit and put about 6K on it with zero failures, no oil burning, smooth operation all together, anything man-made can have defects so if your s/c messes up it was meant to, otherwise you or the installer installed it wrong, i swear i read the installation instructions from trd for over 3 months and planning my install, took 8-9 hours with just 2 of us in a garage with no power tools, just a craftsman socket set and patience to get this thing on (including the 30-40 min wait for the paperclip trick because i used elevation's already re-flashed computer and kept mine untouched ) put it on at 38K now at 44K, never been boosted before or installed one and it turned out better than i thought, i drove a srt-4 and didnt impress me going through gears as much as my 9.5 psi s/c!
