Interesting read, and agree that dynos are tools and not for bragging rights. I don't know about using different test gears, and I'm still not sure what else to take from this article.

i agree with the statement that dynos are tools. since they are tools, it is obvious that the tool must constantly be calibrated in order to be in proper working order. with proper calibrations, there should be no problem with measuring whatever the tool was made for. in this case, since the tool is measuring the power output of a car, it's obvious that there is no possible calibration that will compensate for every single car since all cars are different aren't going to be using the same parts such as the wheels and tires that are in contact with the machine as well as the rate at which the dyno is recorded. so all in all, there is too much variance in order to get proper readings from a dyno. performing a series of dynos and calculating an average still leaves a lot of room for error.

i think it boils down to specific dynos cause ptunning dyno reads very low but in their test that type reads high

IMO, the point of a dyno is not about the max numbers, as stated it's a useful tuning tool. It's more about where the Hp and torque lines meet, the area under the curve, the power produced across the RPM range etc.

The conclusion is priceless. I am a dyno operator, and have to deal with this every week. Dyno racers are the worst customers.

I don't know what to take from the article. It still all comes down to dyno configuration, if they are using any correction factor, etc. That is difficult to gauge simply by reading the article and looking at the numbers. Luckily, I don't race nor really care what my car puts down on the dyno but they 1st shop hit it right on the head by saying "trust" is the most important part of the customer-shop relationship hence the reason I drove 11 hours to PTUNING.
