What do you mean by "reliable kit"? Longevity? Welds?

I think he means reliable like being able to be boosted without sacrificing that famous Toyota always-starts-and-works reliability. It's his DD, and I want to do the same to my DD, which is my only car. So double the question for me.

When boosting an NA car, the reliability factor goes out the window in my opinion. Its all a matter of the quality of the kit and how you maintain your car with things like using the proper oil weight and spark plugs. Also tunning will play the biggest factor in how long your motor lasts.

Now the question should be, "what is a quality built Turbo kit?"

With that said, people will always have their preferences. I wouldn't say Dezod is the greatest kit built, but it's not low quality by any means. And their customer service is 2nd to none. I don't own one of their kits but every question I have had, I have was given a detailed response from them. I've learned a lot from them.

Now when shopping, there are other factors that you need to look at. Main one being is what are your goals for the car?

Not at all, you were very informative, that being said what is your opinion on boosting a 05 motor with 110k miles on it? Any issues you'd expect to see? Or should I wait it out for my extended warranty to expire before I go messing around? I always change fluids on time, and I'm careful to not drive my car -TOO- hard, only sometimes .

Oil is changed every 3-4k miles with Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, or Valvoline SynPower with a Purolator PureOne Gold filter. Plugs have less than 8k miles on them, changed at 95k. Haven't changed Fuel Pump yet, but thinking about it.

I'm thinking Dezod will yield the best results or possibly Descendant. Then again, I live in California, so anything at all is a problem to begin with.

- Back on subject. My goals are to have a daily drivable boosted tC with around 250-300hp at the wheels. I figure 8-10 PSI would be enough to achieve that, but I don't want to get screwed over by Johnny Law when that finally happens. Good thing I'm applying to the Sheriff's Department...

I think you will be OK with boosting. I would recommend a new head gasket, but that's just me. You will need your basic tune up and maintenance to be done like normal. Just after getting some tech info from Dezod, try a heavier weight of oil once boosted.

"Say for example your car calls for 5w30, don’t be afraid to run 10w40 on a turbocharged app in the summer months. It has a wider heat range and less chance of breaking down under the intense abuse and heat. Oil break-down is the last thing you want for your engine and turbo………….THAT MEANS BOOM! "-Dezod

When it come down to it, proper tunning will make or break your car. Make sure you have someone that knows what they are doing.

Now for your goals, the Dezod s1 kit would be a nice choice. It should put you in that hp range I believe. Plus their warranty is awesome and a great group of people.

nazarous, i am a few hrs north of you (ventura area) and am in the planning stage of doing the same thing on a friends 08 tc, with the same goals, safe reliable DD with about 250-300 hp at the tires (in my case I am giving my friend some room to go up a bit in power)

I am working on a 7k budget but my list is in this thread

feel free to comment or ask questions

Let me state that first and foremost your longevity and success on the venture is 100% in your hands and not so much in the manufacturers hands. Why? I will explain.

No matter what, you are turbocharging an N/A car. Precautions need to be taken. Extra attention to detail and a diligent maintenance schedule must occur.

Examples of what I mean?

Snippet taken from our Facebook page and our Tech Tuesday segment.

On the topic of setting up your car for boost safely, you want to also check your adjust your maintenance regiment drastically. Some easy steps to follow:

1. Consider a heavier oil (mentioned above)
2. Consider a more frequent oil change duration (depending on how car is pushed)
3. Consider nothing but a quality synthetic oil
4. Check spark plugs every other oil change and change if needed
5. Make a weekly point to go for 15 mins to check all clamps, fittings, gaskets etc to ensure everything is tight, no leaks and no damage has occurred.
6. Quality fuel from big brand name fuel stations (Chevron, BP, Mobil, Shell, Sunoco)
7. Keep a small tool kit of the essentials needed in the trunk
8. Always keep a rag in the car
9. Check fluids weekly

Keeping on top of these pointers and making sure she has a quality tune will provide maximum pleasure out of your turbocharging experience.

So this is why I say it's mostly in your control. With that being said, next you need to be real with yourself on budget and power goals. The hilarity of anything more than the above mentioned FACTS and such is all sales hype and probably a snow storm. With that being said, there is a reason we are around and still doing what we are doing since 2006 with this platform.

I have been daily driving my Dezod turbo'd tC for over two years now. The car gets me to and from work everyday and has even been driven from New Orleans to Detroit several times. Paul hit it on the head above. My Dezod kit has some of the nicest parts money can buy but that doesnt mean I can slack off.

I check my oil, and coolant levels and condition every time I get gas, keep a good eye on my guages when driving, change my oil at least every 3k miles. These and other small steps add up to a reliable boosting experience. If you love your car, you won't mind at all having to put in a little extra time to watch it more carefully. And take my word for it, you will love your car when you experice what a turbo can do on a tC.

Like I said, I daily drive my car and I'm not afraid to have fun with it. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive and always draws a small crowd when I pop my hood at car meets

Thanks for the kind words Drew! This car was tuned by me about 2 years ago on 850cc injectors and runs VERY well. Drew is VERY meticulous and has great attention to detail, which is why his venture has been so successful and enjoyable.

ON another note, I was in touch with a customer recently on the west coast whom has had our S1 kit on for 6 years! Just recently replaced the turbo after having over 70K miles on it. Again, I am sure it boils down to the trend of taking care of your investment.

I will leave you with my famous quote..."Treat a turbo car like **** and it will treat you like ****."

The only thing that i can add to what was stated above, is that make sure you have the money to spare. meaning, after everything is installed and tuned, make sure you have a decent amount of money saved in case things go south. there is no 100% success factor in what kit you purchase, or how well you maintain your car. of course those are extremely important, but things can go wrong very quickly without warning. just remember that you are almost doubling the power this engine is meant to create, and things will eventually break.

personally ive had great luck in the past with my setups as for reliability, but it was very expensive. just keep that in mind before jumping into any decisions.

ive been on sl for years. all three kits, p-tunning, dezod and descendent are great kits. each kit has high quailty parts. ive had the pleasure of talking to all three. there customer service for all is the best in the industry. i personal spent 2 years deciding what kit i wanted. i went descendent. now im not pulling you one way or the other. look at all three kits and look at the parts. break them down and look to see who has the best parts. my came down to the look. striat up. love the manifold and hot jet piping. each kit is there for daily and built anfd tuned right can go out and take care of the bizz.i may or may not have helped but this is one thing your going to have to do some reseach your self on.

on a side note it only took 8 hours to install the kit and tune it.that was with taking the supercharger off and installing mishimoto rad, fan and hoses.
