newbie turbo install
It took me 3 solid days from 9 am to 12 midnight with a few break in between to instal my custom turbo kit...
i would have been done in 2 solid days if the majority of my hoses and clamps werent so ____ty and they didnt need to be replaced.
the kit i sell to people is only 1500 bucks and it's a 16g evoIII turbo, zero lag and at 7 psi you see around 255 to 270 WHP..
or at least thats what my car is at right now at 7.2 psi ...

It took me and a couple buddies 16 hours total for a custom stage 1 ZPI kit. That included wiring a Zeitronix LCD setup, AEM FIC, cutting ebay piping to fit (that alone took probably 2 hours), and about another 2 hours staring at the car thinking about what to do next. If you go custom like I did, it is going to be a pain without instructions, but as long as you know how a turbo kit works you should be ok. Keep some 7-layer bean dip around....that was my favorite part about my install haha. Good luck!
There is always going to be an advantage between pre-welded piping vs. coupled piping, as far as fitment and being leak-proof, but compare the price difference between a prewelded intercooler + piping setup to an ebay setup. I paid about $280 for a front mount intercooler and two universal piping kits. I don't have any regrets.
I would read up and do it yourself. You will not only save money on the install, but also save a lot of money fixing things yourself when they go wrong. Just take your time and start reading and saving..
AEM FI/C is a amazing unit to tune on because it can be tuned for partial throttle fuel as well as WOT
The other decent option is the Greddy E-Manage Ultimate.. but the AEM unit does everything this does and more.
Feel free to pm or email me if you have questions on exactly why its better or if you would like to purchase one

here's what you should do... do both! well... not really both, but:
Call around, find a local shop that can do the install for not so much money and make sure they have a good rep. Then once you have a reputable back up shop in place. Try it yourself! If you get stuck, come on SL and search to see if anyone was stuck in the same place (someone probably has). Worst case senario, have your car towed to the shop you trust (if you have AAA it should be free depending on how local they are).
I wish I did it myself... it seems just very comprehensive not very technological. Take your time, set some time aside for the inevitable issues, and learn more about your car. Or pay someone 400 bucks to install it in 8 hrs.
