Default Nitrous at the track

I was wondering how much a ZEX wet kit with a 55 or 75 shot would drop my 1/8th mile time.

Would it be more then a second or just a few tenths?

I found a few people with nitrous kits on their cars on this forum but no one seems to bring it to the track after they install it.

I'm pretty sure I could hit a 9.6 with the new tires, stiffy, & s-pipe installed now.. Which would be very close to a high 14 in the quarter. But I'm looking to do much better then that without a huge price tag.

You should be able to run a 9.4 or so with a 55 shot. Stay away from the 75 shot. That's a little much for a stock 4 cylinder.

Just a 9.4? That's not worth the money then.

I hit a 9.8 with a 2.3 60' which could be lowered alot, especially with the new tires & the stiffy. I'd say 2.1 or 2.2 would be very possible now.

I really thought 55 more hp & torque would bring me down more then 2-3 tenths.

I run a 8.8-9.0 with a 13.6-13-8 sec pass. So as long as you have decent tracion you could easily get a 9.0-9.2. You just need to get traction, and you should be set.

What was your trap speed and 60' time on the 8.8-9.0 runs?

here's an example...

9.092 1/8th
2.34 60'
83.5 MPH

Reason for the slow 60' times... Last year I broke an axle on just the second race with the turbo kit. So this year I've spent a LOT on the car (over 20k in mods). The car is going into Modified Magazine (featured article). I have 4 12" subwoofers in the trunk, with 4 Amps, an Xbox, 6 mids, 6 highs, 5 farad cap, and a lot of dynamat. This car really hauls but traction is an issue. I launch at only 2k, and feather the clutch out. Once it's completely grabbed I then punch it. After the 1 second delay it goes straight to tire spinning in 1st and 2nd. Then it hooks up and hauls a** from there. My traps in the 1/4 are 107-108.

Very impressive.. I cannot wait to get some nitrous for my tC.. that will come a little bit later on in the game though, unless the situation permits it earlier.

You should keep in mind also that some companies rate their shots at the flywheel, and some at the drive wheels. A 75 shot from a NOS setup might get you the same WHP as a 50shot from a NX setup that rates HP at the wheels.

Also, the torque number is usually close to DOUBLE when spraying nitrous. For example, my 2002 Trans Am made 318/329 whp stock. With a NX 100 shot, with a slightly richer jet then I needed, I made 428/566 whp and 478/675 with a 150 shot. Point being is that if traction is an issue NOW, its only going to get worse if you add nitrous and dont address it. On street tires at the track I only picked up 2 tenths on 100 shot but I picked up 8 MPH.

I don't have any traction problems at all.. Just a very small spin in 1st gear and a really little chirp in 2nd.

I would be really let down if a 75 shot only brought my time down by 2 tenths.

With a good 60ft you should be able to shave 4-5 tenths off with 50whp at those starting times, imho.

Now that wouldn't be bad at all. Normally I hit 2.2x 60ft. times when I had my stock tires and no stiffy. I probably won't do much better then that even with my new mods, but they should be more consistant. Since I wouldn't be spraying in 1st gear I don't think the 60ft. would change much.

I think it would be good enough to beat a SC'ed tC in the 1/8th.

Yah you should shave off probably about half a second with a good run on the 1/8. I'm currently working on pricing out a kit for my car. Will hopefully have it installed in another month to a month and a half.

One of my friends installed a ZEX kit on his car a few months ago, it was so easy. Took us both about 2 hours from start to finish without rushing. I think installing my short shifter on my tC was more complex.

Considering it's about $550 for the wet kit and $0 for a do-it-yourself install, it's hard to say no.

I like the TRD SC, but for the $3000+ it would cost I don't think it's worth it. The best time for a SC'ed tC is still 14.3, and that's with alot of bolt-ons & the pulley.

Yah I agree nitrous is a lot cheaper thats why Im going that route. I figure with a 50-60 shot I should be able to hit low low 14's and most likely into 13's once I finish all my other mods. I would be totally fine with that. Im still suprised no one has hit 13's with the S/C since people fully NA can hit 14.9's.

But like you've posted before, it seems like a lot of these people who get turbo kits/S/C's dont seem to really go out to the track all that much.

And that's without any type of internal mods like the 11:1 compression pistons or the stage 2 head.. A tC with those mods and all the bolt on's should be deep into the 14s.. 14.4-14.6's I would guess.

Too bad those mods are so expensive most people (including me) will never purchase them.
