Default Paul(dezod) id like to concede to an argument we had

When your wrong your wrong and ima person that will admit it. I dont know if you remember but we had a discussion about painting dump tubes with 500f engine enamel, well today at the track i found out the truth...lol

I recently painted my dumptube that i had fabbed a couple of months ago with 500f clear engine enamel. The first dumptube that i had made i painted it black and never noticed any issues with the paint (500f engine enamel), but after a few runs with the new dumptube freshly painted it turned a deep dark brown. Now it didnt crack, chip, or peal but it does look toasty...lol Now it didnt smoke or any smell what so ever and the paint surface is still real smooth but yeah it does look kinda burnt.

so Paul i concede

I made this thread to apologize and to warn any one from using 500f paint on anything that has exhoust gases going through it, at least dont use clear engine enamel

heres some pics

LMFAO funny outcome......common sence would tell you those gases/ fire thats coming out the turbo would reach in excess of 500 F and the pipe is going to be at the temp of fire/gases.

You should see mine. Yours looks perfect compared to the horrific job I did on mine.
Then again, I didn't use any high temp paint...

the point i was making before was that exhoust isnt constantly going through the dump tube, only momentarily while in boost. Hence the reason i thought you could get away with 500f paint. and yes i know that exhoust gases get hotter than that but i honestly didnt think that the dump tube would see those high temps long enough to do any harm to the paint. btw i had done it before but with black paint (500f) and nothing happend to the paint.

Ya know, the paint on the bottom half of my dumptube is still in perfect shape, and I just used some interior rattle can paint crap...no high temp or anything. It's the bend that is chipped to hell and back. So the heat dissipates very rapidly. If anything, you could probably get away with 1500F just on that corner, then 500F on the rest of it.

possibly but you might as well just spray the entire thing with 1500

its funny how it looks more like the paint was "caramelized"

Yeah I know, I'm just saying that it's just that one spot that needs the higher temp paint.

And yea, that's weird. It's like it tried to resist the heat but just couldn't do it. Mine just chipped away and kinda died. All I did was prime it twice, then paint it black. No clear, no sanding, no polishing...nothing lol.

I need to take it off and repaint it. I have a small leak too, because that back bolt is just a PITA to tighten.

It's more that the wastegate is in an awkward position than the dumptube. I don't even think I have my WG tightened all the way, I prob have a small exhaust leak there too .

I kind of want to get it recirc'd. but I don't want to. Now that I'm on 12psi again, I love the sound of the turbo when it's not dumping. On max boost, it just sounds retarded lol.
