Yup looks like the mod is done correctly. I even tried new resistors and nothing. Very disappointed at this point and I am really thinking about getting your standalone system but i feel like I wont utilize all of its capabilities.

LOL! Most DON'T utilize all of it's potential. Most only use 50% of it.

What are some of the dormant functions? I would really like to get a standalone to work with my failsafe gauge.

Sounds like alot more attention needed for the tune depending on how much of that you want to use.

Generally when tuning this vs a normal AEM FIC unit, would a tune cost the same or is it all depending on time/labor?

Absolutely if you want to use ALL or any of these functions. However, the end of result of said investment can be enormous on power gains AND reliability.

We charge $350 for an FIC tune and $850 for a basic EMS tune.

Dezod coming thru for the community once again.. great communication... jonny5ive if the car is your daily driver a simple piggyback will suffice. Dezod's EMS is boss but like paul said you won't utilize it's potential unless your engine is built.

You have two options get a new FIC and Harness or go with the Greddy Ultimate which has more functions than the fic but is also more expensive.

Well said. Yes dezod is always coming thru and for somone who isnt a customer of theirs. Obviously they will get my business here soon and in the future and I will always always recommend them to my tC buddies that are looking for upgrades. Thank you dezod for your helpful support along with all the others that commented on this thread. I really hope the new one doesnt throw a code lol. And this time im just going to get everything on all at once and see what we are dealing with.

I always thought the fic was better for street cars because it can kick in under WOT. The EMU is only WOT, correct me if I am wrong.

EMU has no O2 skew function so part throttle can get hairy.

Beats me. I'm sure Paul can answer that one. I'm alittle curious myself since I'm in the market for one now.

Some reading material......It's dated. I wrote this back in like 07, but most of the hard points are still true

Interesting enough, but I am now having the same problem. Car randomly decides it wants to crank but not start. P0340 pops up. Never had this issue before, but has been plaguing me for the past 2 weeks. Changed Alternator (it was actually going bad): still does it. Changed cam sensor: still does it. Crank sensor is ~ 1 year old, but may change that also. Gonna try checking the harness next to see. Put in new resistors and cross fingers. Finally will try new starter if none of that works. Other than that, idk (throws hands in the air).

To the OP: did you ever solve the problem, and how?

I have not fix the issue yet been kinda busy with other things but heres an update: I took Paul's advice and reordered a new FIC. I also ordered a new harness just because the old one was shotty looking. So I got the new harness and decided to test it with the old FIC I had (doesnt hurt to try) and had same results. Im expecting my new FIC this week and hopefully everything should been golden. (If not...then its my car telling me it doesnt want boost)

So your fic might be bad as well.

Interesting development. This morning I got the bright idea to reflash the FIC before going out and checking the resistor mod on the harness and sourcing a new FIC. So I reflashed z104.hex, started the car and it worked like a charm! Just in case it was a fluke, I let it idle for a minute, shut it down, then tried to start again and it worked. Drove to work (28 miles), shut the car off, and tried again. It started, though cranking took about 1/2 longer. It started fine 3 times in a row.

Gonna keep checking it throughout the day to see if anything different happens. Will know by the end of the week whether the CEL pops back up or not. So before putting in a new FIC, try reflashing your existing one.
