Default PTUNING: Scion tC customers with broken transmission, we need your input.

We have destroyed mainly 4th gear during our 2.5 seasons of Time Attack racing.
Therefore, we are finishing up on the development of better 4th gear which will allow us to fully utilize the 550+WHP for road racing.

For those that are making the big power and have already damaged a gear on your tC transmission, please let us know which gear.

We are currently deciding whether to make a complete gear set (more expensive) or just a single gears set (example. 4th gear), in order to make it more affordable to the public.

So, if you have broken a gear or gears on your tC transmission, please let us know which gear.

Thank you.

The pricing is really to be determined. Right now we need to figure out is what the community needs more.

1. Whole gear set
2. Individualize gears i.e. 3rd and 4th

pricing could range from $2800-$5,000 it all depends.

Please post your opinion and experiences.

Interested in this. I have yet to break a gear but with the build in process right now I would be willing to upgrade my gears.

We probably will wait out for more input, before deciding which route to take.
However, here are some preliminary number and pricing.
These prices are not set. Price can change based on quantity.

$1200 = 4th gears only (incl. input and output gears)
$4600 = Complete gears set (1st through 5th).

We have already prototyped the 4th gears set and should have the parts ready for testing within 2 weeks.
We can put the 4th gears set into production and have them available for sale within 4-6 weeks thereafter.
To do the complete gears set, turn around time would be closer to 3+ months turn around time.

Either way, to do only the 4th gears set, we will need at minimum 10 pre-order w/ pre-payment to make it happen.
To do the complete gears set from 1st to 5th, we will need at minimum 5 pre-order w/ pre-payment to make it happen.

Since we only prototyped 4th gear, we can only provide you with specs on this gear.
Factory ratio is .96, but we can have it made anywhere from .85 to .95.
As for the manufacturer, we can only tell you that it will be made by a company that specialized in making gears set.
Regardless, of manufacturer, we will not release the product until we have thoroughly tested on our TA tC, from the dyno to the track.

Thanks.

Maybe I'm the only person to vote 5th. I didn't break it, just disassembled it via a hard shift during a quick little race. But my trans is out of the car, so this would be wonderful to do. Aligning my duckies up currently for some works.

I too have been thinking about changing my transmission setup. The original gearing seems off for a turbo-ed Tc.

These are the speeds I would like to achieve per gear.

1st - up to 35 mph
2nd - up to 65 mph
3rd - up to 100 mph
4th - up to 125 mph
5th - we'll just say over 130 mph

I found some threads on here about taking gears from a Corola S or an MR2 or .........., but IDK what to believe or what to really expect for reliability.

In short I am very interested and would love to get more information on options and any other ideas you might have on this topic.

Thank you and way to keep moving the bar higher.

Its a lot to ask for thousands of dollars without providing manufacturer information

I would be more concerned with it's reliability than with who made it. And I'm sure they will test the heck out of it.

I agree with Travis! Manufacturer names today doesnt mean a thing, quality control now vs the early 90's isn't there. I see some top name manufacturers with bad brand new parts all the time.

I fully understand your concern, but at the same time, that is liking asking an exhaust manufacturer like HKS who makes their mufflers, flanges, clamps, and tubing. If you trust the HKS brand, then you buy their exhaust.

This goes for the gears. We prototyped the gears. We are not going to put our name on the final product and sell it to the public until we have tested it and believed in the quality.

I agree with pdool09. The gear ratios for the turbo'd tcs are waaay too short in first and second. Im hitting the rev limiter before i even get anywhere.

If this is something we can do for a whole tranny set up. Please. I will be the first on the list to sign up.

It seem like this thread is starting to lean towards a full gear set.

Keep the opinions coming.

I rarely use 1st for racing, and sometimes 2nd (but don't have to much problem with redline and not moving yet). So, 4th is the money maker and the one that breaks the most.
