Probably another reason why you guys should just start with a 4th gear instead of the whole set, cause response/demand will be low.

At this point, that is probably our plan.
Once we have tested the modified 4th without issues, we will decide at that time whether to do only the 4th gear of the whole gear set.

I'll weigh in, altough I really don't plan on doing a transmission again, but yeah, as an owner of a turbo tC, the stock gearing is way too short, and if I had a tidy pile of money to pour into the car, or it needed a transmission repair, I'd go for taller gearing to take greater advantage of the power band and get some better highway mileage.

at only 311 whp, I'm not destroying any gears, but I seem to have a miner problem where on cold days, the car grinds going into 3rd gear on it's first downshift of the day. probably a weak synchro or something. and since it is only once a day usually, i live with it and try to avoid 3rd gear downshifts until the car is warm.

:D You have no idea how happy this thread makes me... What kind of time frame are we looking at? Id really like to have a 3/4 set before March 2013.

thendawg you need a dogbox transmission in your car, But i have to agree i am interested in the 3/4 combo because it seems to be the gears i beat to death on the track most of the time.

I'd be interested into doing a 3/4 gear combo by the late spring. Would it matter that I have the E351 tranny?

I mainly do drag racing but I'm looking into doing more highway runs in 2013.

E351 has the same 3/4 IIRC. Only thing diff is the final drive and 5th gear. I have an E351 also.

Well I'm definitely down for a 3/4 gear setup! Looking forward to hearing what the final decision will be.

i had the same problem with 3rd gear then got worse n everytime i shifted when racing it grinds... well since i went with an alpha turbo kit by dezod this sunday i went to go race it n the next day driving to the shop 3rd gear was f__ked so i would worry bout that 3rd gear going out soon...

I'm thinking 3rd has a problem with abrasive driving, whereas 4th just can't hold the power in the ranges we want for track/circuit racing.

Totally agree with that statement. Taller gearing in a boosted tC would help with spirited driving and highway gas mileage.

I have that same issue lol, first downshift to 3rd from a cold start and *grind*! It's like I always forget lol. How many of us have this? And why?

E351 from the Solora/Camry tranny can do 75mph under 3,000 rpm's therefore giving you a bit more of both spirited driving & gas mileage.

Yeah, I just did a road trip down to NC with the tC, while driving at night with the cruise control set between 70-80 mph depending on the posted limit and resisting the urge to punch it too much. I only averaged 26.8 mpg over 166.6 miles! I need taller gearing! lol
