Default Question for the 9.5 guys

How many other S/C owners running the stock headers and exhaust (axel back doesnt count) but using a 9.5 pulley are experiencing burning through cats or getting a CEL with the P0420 code?

are you still burning animals?

why don' you just ditch the stock header and put on a non-cat'ed racing header? problem solved indefinetly until you have to show up for emissions testing.

do what i'm doing, get a custom mid-pipe made with a high flow cat on it, and put the secondary o2 sensor behind that so you don't get a CEL and you pass emissions.

I have exactly this, plus now a blown head gasket. You might want to try the anti fouler trick it's only a few bucks and a little labor. I am picking up a MMW header with S pipe tonight that has the CEL Eliminator. So once I get it all back together, I think everything will be good to go. I haven't been WOT at all and at best I get 23mpg which sucks compared to others who claim 26-28. I hope after I fix everything the mpg gets better, and I go fasta :o

Edit. CEL came on before the 9.5 pulley was installed. As time went on the frequency of the CEL greatly increased. Before it was about week after I cleared it, it would return. Now it'll come back in 30 minutes or less. That header has to fix me up.

i am strongly considering the 9.5 and leaving my stock header (tx emissions every dang year!). why does the pulley burn up the cat? i understand that the s/c spins more, but if the afr is good, how should that negatively impact the engine and exhaust system? forgive my ignorance if i just put my boot in my mouth.

Oh by the way I found a chunk of my first cat about the size of a razr cell phone when I pulled my Mid-pipe off. It fell out at the joint of the mid-pipe and s-pipe. So im assuming my first cat is toast. Its probably due to the increased heat and pressure due to the increased boost.

that sounds like a great idea, but quick question if I was to put on a header, wouldn't i get a lot of rasp?

yeah, aftermarket header with aftermarket exhaust usually is a recipe for RASP, but with the addition of a high flow cat, and a nice big resonator or two, the rasp will be surpressed.

True that!
I have a high flow cat, and two resonators = sleeper...
