Default RAAMaudio home brew turbo built updates

I am working very closely with Ptuning on this. I was going to build a manifold like theirs, with permission, but ended up with a deal on a twin scroll turbo, I picked up the only inlet flange I could find locally so I could get started, it was twin scroll, what the heck, may as build a twin scroll manifold

I am doing quite a few things that could not be done for a production product, one off, but if I were to buy a full system, I would want thiers;)

To be clear, I designed and built it but just tack welded it with the proper wire and gas then had a very skilled local welder TIG it up for me

Another note: This is a twin scroll manifold but only using one WG, why??? Beacause it will not open until needed, below the threshold where you want the benifits of the twin scroll it will be closed. Saves weight, money, maint, etc, over having two WG's, ;)

Dowpipe and exhaust is 75% finished, 304 SS since I am heat wrapping all the bits near the engine, etc, no need to spend the extra on 409.

I have a few parts on the way so I can finish things up including the IC piping, the IC has a 12x3x26: core, I hope it does the job on the 20-40 minute track sessions I will be running, much of which in very high ambient temps.

------------

The car it will help power on to much faster Time Attack times

But with more openings in the front to feed air to the big IC, oil, power steering, tranny cooler and brake ducts. I plan to lower the car more once I decide which method to use to correct the geometry when dropped lower that what now is optimum.

------------

Ptuning has been incredibly helpful in more ways than I can count, the car will be sporting some nice big decals next season to show my appreciation and hopefully start the season with their fully built race engine

your turbo hangs really low just wanted to see what you did to/with the front motor mount.

Nice work

I swapped the manifold pic to a better one and added a pic of the car, some more info, etc, to the first thread

I will post more pics when I get a chance to clean things up a bit, smooth out some rough edges in the area as making quite a few mods to how things fit around each other. etc.

The engine mount was modified in 05, counter weights removed, most of the rubber cut out and then filled with two part urethane, 80 durometer since it was to be street driven, the 92 I used in another project was about like solid mounts. I have quite a bit of clearance for the mount.

Turbo hung very low to reduce the center of gravity, allow for equal length tubing(much closer than it looks, within 1/2" of each other at the maximum) and have room for a good flowing downpipe as well as dry sump pump later on.

I am going with a more conventional IC setup, just big and as few pipes as possible, big bends, etc, production IC and radiator(koyo), etc..... to ensure easier repairs in case of a bent nose in the future. Since I run my business, build my cars, race prep and race them all by myself I have to make them as easy to fix as I can. If not for that I would build it just like Ptunings incredible car, really

---------

I am going to fab up solid engine mounts soon as well so may sell off at least parts of my mounts, they work great

Hmmm, I may start today since waiting for parts to continue with the turbo build though I have to haul two truck loads to recyling, ship orders, write a bunch of emails and drive an hour into the city for kart racing practice tonight(I will be there for hours, many many sessions

I need a clone!!! (I like to mention my age since so many times people have asked how I do so much, been like this my whole life and I am 56 though slowing down a bit mostly due to injuries but still having fun

Rick,

I think that's the first time i've actually seen a picture of your race car and I have to say. "that's one clean and badass looking car." All go before show, the way a race car should be.

Thank you for the props but you deserve all the credit for the fantastic fabrication work you've done thus far. If only we had more enthusiasts like yourself who knows what it takes to build a car for competition use, it would make our lives that much easier. Having built the car yourself, you know what it takes in terms of time and money to develop a competive car. Like yourself, we like to think out of the box when building certain components for the tC. Every performance upgrade you do to your car should serve a purpose from a functional standpoint and not fashionable standpoint and you've taken that same approach with your build.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, "you get what you paid for." It takes time and money to R&D a good peformance product. Just because it fits doesn't mean it works. Also, just because it works on the street doesn't mean its going to hold up on the track--we've broken enough parts in the short season we ran the tC to know that just because something is street worthy does not mean it will be track worthy.

So please stop buying cheap ebay knock-off junk and start spending your hard earned money on parts that actually perform. If anyone wants to get involve in the time attack series or just want to get your car on track for track day, we're more than happy to assist and i'm sure Rick from Rammaudio is more than happy to talk about racing, even if you're not calling him to ask about his great products

BTW, Modified Magazine is doing a feature on the Ptuning TA tc in an upcoming issue, so read all about it when it hits the news stand, Also, if you subscribe to Grass Roots Motorsports Magazine (GRM), you'll see our TA tC on the GRM 2009 Calendar under the month of May. In addition, GRM Magazine is naming the Redline Time Attack series as an Editor's Pick for 2008. So get involve now, if you're planning to move up from autoxing or just want to get on a road course--there's a class for everyone.

If you like the turbokit on our tC or the setup that Rick is building, you'll like the SS turbokit that we will be releasing pictures of very shortly. We've replicated most of the design features from our TA tC in the SS kit as well as the more race-oriented RS kit.

Sorry for the off topic Rick, and now back to your exciting race car buildup. Keep up the good work. This thread is definitely worth watching.

MrC
