RAAMaudio home brew turbo built updates
MrC, I am honored to have you post on this thread and for the nice things you have said, very much appreciated indeed, even more so, for all the time, advice, enthusiasm, etc..... you have shown, given, shared, not many in this business have so much heart for the real deal, real performance, and put their time and money into it like you have done.
---------------
I have always put real performance over looks but like to make things look good when I can of course. When a part is used because it is needed, having it look cool at the same time is icing on the cake but it is not the cake. I have seen some rather rough looking cars that were bad **** fast but that is generally rare, most that build them right also make them look good as well but looking good is a relative term. To me, it means nicely done and well maintained real performance, not pretend stuff;)
-----------------
The wheels are Rota, 18x9.5, 21.4 lbs(a bit heavier than I wish I could get for a decent deal) the tires are 265mm R888, will be 275 on the same wheels next year, or.........I may go a bit crazy and go to 305's if I do a hub swap, then I would run Enkei NTO-3 in 10.5 width, like I had on my Forester, really
--------------------
Thanks again!
Rick

^^+1 on that. Same mentality I have. Forum follows Function. What do you have going on in the suspension department? And if you remember, what are the offset specs for the wheels?
I was checking out those wheels, and they seem to come in 5x114 lug pattern in the 18x9.5 size. Did you have some conversion done to support the wheel, or are the wheels custom made?
tiredude.com, great guys there, they partially sponsor me as well now but I have been there many times before.
This particular wheel weighs less than others they can get, weight is the enemy, unsprung weight is their commander!
Tiredude has batches made up of these and other wider wheels on occasion, just have to call and see what is coming in on the boat.
-----------------
If I can work out a good 5x114.3mm conversion I will be selling these, not on the top of my list right at the moment, I have many irons in the fire, like building my Vette race car once the turbo system is done(I am probably going to sell the Vette but it is worth at least $20k more if I put it together first, maybe as much as $30k so well worth my time)

I do not think I have any more ability than anybody else, really, I just set out to do what I want and figure it out on the way. It helps that I started building model cars, slot cars, etc... when quite young and just never stopped my modding ways. I have been involved in many trades as well and what is learned in one can cross over to another, etc...
Get some tools, go to work, figure it out, the keys to being a successful DIYer
I did get lucky and spent some serious time with Matt at Image Dynamics. He is probably the best audio installer, designer, fabricator, etc of all time. I used to drive the 100 mile trip so I could work like a mad man, sometimes 24 hrs non stop getting one of their cars ready for SEMA, CES, etc, I sure learned a great deal!

I am in the car audio business, specifically in sound deadening but now 75% of our orders to go hot rodders, custom builders, etc, many not really into audio. I used to really be into the audio side, check out the link below, stealthy has always been my bag.

7 page article in Mobile Entertainment Magazine, sure helped get my business off the ground
I beat a world champ with that install, and the version before it in my only year in competition. I went to the world finals but got stung by politics so I quite but I had a line of magazine types wanting to do a feature on the truck once they heard it so I picked the best there was
P.S. The install was not finished for the photo session, I had miniature Recaro seats for the back over the subs and a center console under construction but not enough time to finish and meet their deadline.
I still have the truck, simple but killer sounding system, I learned a great deal in that one year, even became an IASCA judge and judged some of the top cars of all time.

Rick the evolution of this vehicle has come quite a way from the first time we spoke. Glad to see she is taking some good form. Keep me posted on the outcome and keep up the great work.
Thanks Paul, You have also been a very good help on this project, though I have gone off on my own tangent and a bit crazier (like Ptunings car) you have spent some time with great advice and enthusiasm which I very much appreciate

Obviously you are into real performance, involved in racing tC's and one of the few shop owners I respect in the SCC world.
----------------
I am really glad I did not sell it either. I had 4 deals fall through in 2 years, only willing to sell it to somebody with the heart and determination to finish and use the car for what it was to become. I could of sold it off easily to just anybody but would not of done so.
One of my local racer buddies almost bought it but came into a deal on another car, spent a ton on it after buying it but I was killing him at the track and he said 4 or 5 times the same day he regretted not buying the tC. Then he went out and totaled his car on a corner I was running at least 10 MPH faster and still not at the limit!
I felt so bad for him, probably $25-30k down the toilet and on a set of really nice wheels I tires I just sold him the week before, busted all the wheels during the crash(he walked away from it at least).
----------------
The focus on the car is Time Attack, etc but most likely it will see at least some W2W work by fall or in 2010;) I set my personal best lap time last night at a very fine indoor kart track and the W2W racing was very intense, what a blast!!! I am sponsoring a winter indoor kart series I setup, just one more thing I do to pass the time
The karting, and soon iracing.com, are to keep me sharp, make be better, for next year at the track in the tC;)

def. would like to hear what size turbo your going to run, Also i see you said you made it twin scroll with single wastegate(i like) I just hope your going to use the proper a/r with twin scroll which some people/companys don't really seem to understand... Nice build would love to see more pics.

keep in mind that for a T3 flanged turbo(Garrett) there is only one mass produced turbine housing available and that it only comes in one ar = .78
T4 footed housings have allot more options.
