I am 56 and get more done each day than most would consider possible and I love modding and racing my tC more than my $100k+ Vette race car(which I am getting ready to part out and sell, the tC is far more challenging and thus rewarding
Anyway, please think before you slam somebody for wanting to make his car loose a bit of weight, especially in the front of a nose heavy FWD. If you know true performance then you know weight is the number one enemy and especially so if it helps in the overall weight distribution (50/50 is not always idea either, depending on the platform, intended use, etc)
---------
Of course if you are a drag racer the extra weight, or not taking any off, the nose can help get a bit more grip off the line but it may effect your overall trap speed and or ET, depending on many things of course.

I wish I could take some of you guys through a few of the more hairy corners at my local track, it would scare the crap out of you I am sure, it does it to me!!!

hmm.... techniqually isnt heat the #1 enemy? seen as how weight wont destroy an engine, but heat will? id say weight is #2
Heat is certainly the enemy as well but also so generally well known and it only effects one thing. Weight effects handling, breaking, acceleration, all of which can cause more heat in one way or another.
Read any good book on building, tuning, racing and weight is always covered extensively, heat is just one more part of the puzzle and dealt with as a given.
You can even control a great deal of heat using methods to create downforce, less drag, etc
It is great to have some good thoughtful comments on this thread, unlike some of the rather silly ones here.

I am not going to dog on you like the others have; I just have an honest question for you why do you want to remove this?
The reasons I ask
1st with the a/c off the bearing will have very little drag when removed you may not saying you will gain 1/10th of a second of off your 1/4 mile.
2nd if you remove the a/c compressor and condenser lines etc you may shed 50 lbs max this may be good for 1/20th of a second off of you 1/4 mile.
If for some reason your a/c is bad and just don't car to fix it because of where you live and do a lot of racing then I understand.

Nice comments and questions, great post.
One thing however, drag racing is very limited in scope, removing weight off the front of the car could induce less grip the the small amount of weight savings, no where near 50 lbs, may not make you faster at all.
Road racing, canyon carving, autocross, etc, it becomes far more critical to remove weight off the front for better overall balance and the further forward the weight is the more important to reduce it, as well as the higher up weight is located. I saved 46 lbs going to a CF/Kevlar roof(the way I installed it saved much more than the way most are done) and it made a huge improvement in handling breaking and acceleration, taken over a 2+ mile road course it counts in seconds, quite a few actually.
Everything about performance is very important but weight will always be the #1 enemy.
