Default S/C idler pulley fail

Has anyone with a S/C have their idler pulley fail on them? It is because mine failed the bearing inside is wiggling. I remove S/C thinking it had bearing failure on the shaft side found out my bearing fail on the idler pulley.

dude i just had the same problem right now. and i went to the dealership and they dont sell just the bearing. its the whole assembly and they wanted $144 for it. i was like F that. so i used a 20 ton press and took the bearing out and took the pulley to carquest or any bearing shop and they will measure the inside of the pulley. and if you bring the stock bearing, they will measure that too. and i ended up only paying $12. and when i put it back in. there was minimal play. only reason for the extra play is cuz of the .003 in gap difference between the bearings. hopefully that works

You don't want to use crappy bearings, cause it will cause more damage. The bearings to use are $20 a piece, you don't need a press, a hammer will do. The part number is Koyo 6203-2rd-c3 should be available at any bearing place, or they will order it.

Yeah my idler pulley failed about a week ago. So much hassle with toyota tho. Went to my local dealer they said 99 dollars as well but i needed to pre-pay, so i did. Now today they called me and said TRD doesn't have the part in stock anymore so they are gonna figure out what they can do for me, whatever that means. I'm just getting irritated with the whole situation.

I had one fail on me too, just order the koyo bearing replacement for like 10 bucks. I went down to my local industrial shop and they had them in stock even. It is really easy to replace the bearing just a clip and it pops out. Toyota will sell you the entire assembly along with the hassle.

This is the part number I used, 62032RSC3. It is a pretty common bearing. Just looked on Amazon and its under 3 bucks there.

Anybody have instructions or DIY on how to replace these bearings on the s/c? Just bought a pair. Thanks!

It is pretty easy, you just need some snap ring pliers to take out the snap ring that holds the bearing in, then just tap it from behind and it will fall right out. It will be a PITA if you don't have the snap ring pliers.

Thanks Gompka, you seem to know the most about the S/C rebuild. I bought two pairs of bearings, 6203-2RS, and 6205-2RS. I'm guessing 2 go on the drive pulley end, and 2 go on the horseshoe shaft end. Which one is which?

I also bought a shaft seal, where does that go?
