s/c install - dealer or shop?
If i bought the TRD supercharger from trdsparks, would it be more cost effective to take it to a shop rather than a dealer to install? i don't have a warranty btw so thats not a concern

the warranty doesn't really seem to be that important of an asset anyway tho... if anything was to go bad i would guess it would be something with the engine caused by the s/c, not the s/c itself, but you never know...

No, the supercharger doesnt have to be purchased at the dealership.
I say go dealership & keep your powertrain/5 year warranty on the supercharger, too, but don't touch it as far as mod-wise.

dealership should charge about 500 to 700 dollars for the install depending on their rates. and so long as you don't modifiy it, it will have a 5 year, 100k mile warranty. plus the dealerships should be pretty good at installing them by now.

don't shop for cheaper. i shoped for cheaper and got a shop to install my trd lsd. saved me about $600 dollars in price difference. but they mis aligned my synchronizer for 5th gear. it broke into three pieces. took it to the dealership. because the dealership didn't install my lsd, it was not covered under warranty, and i had to pay about TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS! for a transmission overhaul. i am currently working on getting the shop to refund my installation costs, and my tranny overhaul.
so shop around and possibly save a few hundred dollars, but when it blows your engine, and it isn't covered under warranty, your looking at what, 10 grand for a new engine installed into your tc?
it is a gamble, you can save alittle now, and risk paying through the nose to fix it.

Go to the Dealer
Although doing it yourself would be rewarding and much cheaper, there is no guarantee that your labor will be comparable to that of a certified mechanic. IF you f it up than you will have to have a mechanic fix it anyways. If you take it to a Dealer than they guarantee the work, and the warranty on the SC. I would say if you are confident in your ability to work on cars, and follow directions from a Tech article you should be good to go. If not put a little extra dough and have it professionally installed. That way if it f's up it will fall back on the installers. If you do decide to do it yourself, I suggest you reach out to another member of the forum who has done this install already. That way someone can guide you through the process, and assist with any issues along the way.
