This will also stop anyone from modding their car since a header or intake would trip off the CEL of a car. If technology comes out that sends the governement the smog status of your car, the technology will also be there for them to track your car, and possible disable it at any time aswell.

I believe this to be an encroachment on privacy, and if this technology does come on one of my future cars, you bet it will be the first thing I take out.

At a class I took for honda factory training they had talked about giving the ecu the ability to be logged into by police and have the car shut down if the vehicle is over legal limits. They had also talked about using it to send signals to sensors in the road that would be able to essentially drive your car. Mind you this was not fact, just ideas that had been proposed by the government in the new obd3.

Lets pray the AEM EMS will still be around for the newer cars.

In theory, the government could use an obd3 hybrid ecu to regulate tops highways speeds. Imagine how frustrated you would get if the "speed limit" was actually a true limit and not just a "speed suggestion"
