Default Scion TC turbo kit

Does anyone build a good turbo kit without the intercooler besides ZPI? Also how much horsepower will I be loosing without the intercooler? I think the Treastone kit is very good, wish they made a kit without the intercooler?

There is a reason why almost all turbo kits come with an intercooler. ZPI's is the only one I've ever heard of to offer one without on any car, but I never really looked into boost on any of my other cars.
Why don't you want one?

ZPI is the only company I know of that sells them without intercoolers...and BOV's for that matter.

BUt the reason why most companies don't is because it's "safer" so to speak having BOV's and intercoolers. Not to mention you will get better performance...why WOULDN'T you want an intercooler..for the little bit extra money.

Aside form all that, I'm sure any of these companies would probably sell you a kit without an intercooler - if that's really what you want.

Well, I don't know if any company would sell their kit wihtout an IC since that would mean they would have to completely redo their piping. Well, at least one pipe.
Also, I'm not sure if you could really measure the difference in power with or without an IC. Yes, you do get colder air in, and colder air = more power, but it's really for safety reasons and the ability to push more psi for more power.
Since, with a turbo, you are throwing hot exhaust gases back into the engine, you really want to cool them down as much as you can before sending them back in.
If it's just a cost issue, your really only spending an extra $500 or so for the IC and piping. And if you can't afford that extra $500, you really should not be putting a turbo on your car in the first place.

Maybe he's looking for a "sleeper" look. In that case I'd look into some form of intercooler. Maybe a liquid to air cooler or something along those lines.

Well, according to the pm he sent me, he wants to know if the additional cost of on IC is justified for the additional power to be had by adding an IC to a street car.

Not necessarily that he will gain stupid amounts of power (will gain some though)...the fact that without an intercooler your putting hot exhaust gases back into your car should be reason enough to want an intercooler. lol

ZPI doesnt use an intercooler?? WTF?? That's pretty weird. You could always cut out one of the side parts of your bumper and mount a sidemount intercooler. but to me that seems like a lot of work. Plus I love the look of a front mount.

Well, their stage 0 kit doesn't use an intercooler.

Yeah. In fact, if you read their site, they recomend the intercooler upgrade if you plan on upping the boost for more power. They dont' say adding the intercooler will net you x amount of power. It give you the ABILITY to get more power safely.
